Devi Kroell's Architectural Take On Madison

devistore1.jpgWhen Devi Kroell decided to open her New York flagship, there was one thing she knew, “I didn’t want it to look like anything else on Madison Avenue.” Almost two years later, mission is definitely accomplished.

To create her vision Devi enlisted Space 4 Architecture and they worked closely together. Architect Ulderico Micara told us, “Because of what Devi does she has such a fantastic knowledge of details and materials. And the materials needed to be in tune with her designs. She was so right on the money.”

My favorite part of the design was the amazing patterned Siberian oak floor. But the polished brass and cathedral ceilings are quite cool too, especially when looking down through the glass on the second floor. The feel is definitely very serene which Devi said was one of her goals. And while it’s modern and minimalist, it’s not in the least bit cold. “The combination of the modern lines with the warmer materials creates a certain coziness,” says Ulderico. Indeed.

And it still feels like the perfect luxurious backdrop for Devi’s incredible bags, shoes, and ready-to-wear. I wanted to wrap myself up in one of the fur vests on the first floor and never take it off. As for the merchandise, there will loads of stuff that is only available in this store, including certain styles and also colors. And there’s extra good news for those of us on a bit of budget, small leather goods (starting at $90) will be arriving in just a few weeks. We’re talking a full collection not just a few one-off pieces. Hooray!

It’s officially open for business as of this morning. So pop in the next time you’re uptown at Barneys. It’s totally worth it.

Nice. It is all about the clothes without trying to hard. Also a nice departure from all white.

Actually, if I may add, the lighting needs to be changed and the clothes need more color. It is a little depressing.

Who, may I ask, will be buying her overpriced and too-precious items? I think she is probably a few years too late. There are so many empty stores on Madison, I don't think hers will last very long. Sorry, just my opinion.

I'm surprised you thought it was depressing Twist Squeeze. I've been a long time fan of her python bags and so I stopped by on my lunch break and I thought the store was gorgeous! The very first thing you see upon entering is a mannequin in a vibrant yellow ensemble. Great addition to my neighborhood!
