We have been long trawling the street for a new trend -- one that you can cannot simply ape by looking at a magazine. The studs, mega-heels and shoulders have all gotten a little, well, ho hum, as of late. But finally that exciting feeling of a fashion rush came roaring back at last week’s launch of model cum photographer Ellen von Unwerth’s new book with Taschen, Fraulein, authored by the legendary Ingrid Sischy. The book is not out until December, but we got a sneak preview last week at the Michael Hoppen Gallery, where a mob of well-wishers came by to congratulate the ever-smiling photographer.
And the excitement came not just because of all the previously unpublished pictures of Nadja Auermann, Christina Aguilera, Kate Moss, Alek Wek, Monica Belluci and others on display (von Unwerth held many pictures back for her personal collection, and decided to make a book out of them only recently) but also from viewing the very naughty accessories in the photos, from thigh high red stockings to lace masks, and loads of garter belts. But our favorite accoutrement was not in one of the photographs, but rather live and in person. A lovely gentleman who identified himself simply as “Sasha”, a friend of Ellen’s and a stylist showed up wearing a monocle. A monocle! Could this be the beginning of a new trend? Now that caught our eye. Sorry, we couldn't help ourselves.
