We’ve had a crush on Janie Bryant since the first episode of Mad Men three summers ago – even if it took us half way through the season to learn anything about the costume designer behind the show’s exquisite look.
Since then, she (and the show) have influenced everything from Halloween costumes to Michael Kors’ runway. She works with Brooks Brothers to make Don’s custom suits, which the rest of the world can buy as of Tuesday, but she’s finally about to make her very own leap into the world of fashion.
Instead of launching her own line, which she’ll do eventually, she’s going to start with different licensing projects, putting her time and energy into guest collections so that she can still work on the show.
She told WWD, “This approach allows me to branch out and use my creativity and ability to interpret period [fashion] to create designs for real collections that people can enjoy.”
Bryant wants to do men’s, women’s and kids clothes as well as have a hand in accessories and home design. We’d settle for just a dress or two.
