Spring 2010 Paris

When Sequins Met Jeans

sequinjeanscomposite copy.jpgAt the Balmain show this morning in Paris, Twitter was again on fire. From Derek “@dizzyblazeberg” Blasberg’s: “‘This is some hooker military shit,’ the stylist next to me observed” and “It’s a slutty sexy tent city over here” to @TheMoment’s “Savage Balmain! Think G.I. Jane meets Cher! Super sexy- again.”

And then we came to Joe Zee’s TwitPic of the sequined jeans. We’ve seen lots of sequins already this season, but I can only recall one other, Ralph Lauren, that involved a pair of jeans. I believe I stand alone at the office in liking this particular Ralph look (and the entire collection for that matter.) But I cannot be swayed. The sequins on those jeans are cool.

Now the Balmain version is of course much flashier, and will indeed cost a phenomenal amount more money. But these are definitely going to be all over the Beyoncés and Rihannas of the world. Riri even watched them go by in person from the front row.

And granted there could be some ugly trickle down versions that happen that happen as a result of this trend. But I’m on board so far. What about you?

I have been seeing sequin covered leggings for a while. On someone with long thin model legs they look cool when style right. I would be afraid of the sound they made when I walked though, like disco corduroy.

Thank you for this post. I myself could not agree more-as I am in the fashion industry, and spend many of those years interning.

Breaking into the industry is tough. I am lucky enough to have built such a resume that Vogue hired me on to intern for two years. It was such a valuable experience-one I will never forget.

I find myself sucked into the City week after week not really knowing why. Maybe it is because I have hung out with Whitney a few times, and she is a lovely girl!

The Hills and the City cheapen/demean the role of interns, and employees of magazines and fashion companies. I know for a fact that Lauren Conrad never interned where she did.

Again, thank you for this post.

Best,

Perry

seriously? sequin leggings/trousers/jeans are all over the place (and have been for the past several months). there's like 5 pairs on shopbop right now. def no trickling down, if anything christophe decarnin is proving yet again he has no great ideas and is copying from the street.

I'll pass. I'm too old and as guest 1 so eloquently put it, my legs would look like fleshy disco balls, blinding people when the sunlight hits.
