Fashion Is Fun

The Best Job EVER

I’ve never really had an answer to that dream job question, something involving traveling the world while writing about anything - food, fashion, people - would be up there. After seeing the way models live (the successful ones) I think I’d like that, too.

But this guy, Keith Johnson, might have it best. Technically, he works for Anthropologie, but that work includes scouring the globe for six months of the year to find the most amazing, the most unusual objects to fill Anthropologie stores across the country. That thing that makes you go, “Oh, I really need that birdcage,” when you walk in? That’s him.

The Sundance Channel followed his treasure hunt for Man Shops Globe, premiering next Wednesday, October 7th. In the above clip, he actually finds a birdcage, but asks his Indian friends to make some Anthropologie-friendly adjustments before shipping it to America.

How does one get that position? I want to be that when I grow up.

there was a doc about "cool hunters" a while back on pbs that talked about people who would travel to foreign countries and scour the local goods and take them back home to replicate and mass produce. I'm not saying that's what's happening here but it kinda reminds me of that...

And that is why I hate Anthropologie, 90% of the time. The fact that someone will drop $8k on a couch they paid for $500 for at a flea market in France, makes me cringe. And if you can really afford an $8000 couch, you can probably afford to travel, so why not stop being lazy and discover cool finds for yourself? If anything I hope this show makes the consumer realize how silly their pricetags are.

Do you know the exact name of the doc. Cause I would like to watch it but I couldnt find it via google and cool hunters brings up another name.

I know what your saying but mabye the people buying there are time poor. And travelling is not on there priority list.

mabye you should try to get a job at Anthropologie and aks them how long it takes to get into that position.

Also I think you can work at Bestsellers and they actually have a special program where they train people inside the company its for 2 years first year training is in Europe ( homecountry, Denmark and sec year is in Asia or Middle-East or other country in Europe) But then again you have to live in Europe. Anyways they have some mayor brands here (Netherlands) And they are always looking for people.

@ lala, the doc you're thinking of is an episode of Frontline, a PBS series. It's an episode titled the Merchants of Cool. Being in fashion, albeit on the PR side, it made me want to get out of the industry because everyone featured reeked of desperation, and was just contrived to a T. Also, I don't want people subversively trying to sell me on product...just my preference. Makes you think to say the least.
