United Colors of Vintage

vintagebenetton1.jpgWhile attending Westlane Middle School back in the mid-late 80s, Benetton was everything. Well, that and Guess zipper leg jeans, tri-color Polo sweaters, rugby shirts, and Multiples and/or Units.

Now I realize, I regularly tend toward the nostalgic (even more lately which may have something to do with my looming 34th birthday at the end of the month), but the release I just got about Benetton opening up their archives in November made me absolutely giddy. Seriously the cardigan sets, the short-sleeve turtleneck knits, the boat necks. I’m having major flashbacks.

This fall I will totally be bringing these back into my wardrobe, with a slight twist on the styling of course, and minus the braces and bad bangs. Are the rest of you teens of the 80s with me?

hhhhmm.. it all scares me a little. I gave into the leggings but I'm a little worried with the rest. Especially all the Neon floating around for spring. These don't look so frightening tho.

I luuuuvvved Benetton! Loved the ad campaigns and the basic but essential styles. Wow, this is a total blast from the past. Can't wait to see their archive collection.

Yesss...Loved Units at the Thousand Oaks Mall in Cali. When American Apparel first started opening stores, I likened their clothes and set up to Units. I really think though that Guess and Esprit need major image overhauls as they were so great back in the day. Guess is a little too hoochie these days and the ads just aren't the same.

It sounds extremely tempting, only if someone brings back the McEnroe-esque headband and running shorts.

hahaha I love that they removed the comment criticizing (rather nicely) Abbey's writing style. Way to take constructive criticism guys.

Actually, no one removed any comment criticizing me...it just wasn't on this post. Try the bun item and feel free to criticize away. I'm fully capable of handling it like a big girl.

What happened to Benetton and Esprit?

Back in the 80's Benetton sweaters were made of the finest WOOL and the best combinations of colors. I went in recently and it's all cheap clothing.

I remember saving my pennies back in 85' for a $100 wool sweater from Benetton. It was the hit of grammer school.
