The interwebs are all abuzz today with the release of Lady Gaga’s new video for “Bad Romance.” She’s the ultimate crossover as every music, celeb, and fashion site is fairly obsessed with its arrival.
As expected the styling is ridiculously awesome. The S/S10 McQueen is killer (as is the Lady’s ability to walk in those shoes.) And it’s totally creepy and gorgeous all at the same time. I’ve already watched it three times and can’t imagine getting sick of it anytime soon.
In honor of Gaga’s new gig as a beauty spokesperson, I’ll point you to my favorite non-clothing related styling choice in the video: the barbed wire-like nails. While they’re not exactly practical for every day life, you (or rather your manicurist) could create something nifty like this for a holiday party.
P.S. How weirdly cartoon-y were they able to make her eyes in some of those shots? I felt like I was watching Roger Rabbit!

So many haters right now.
I doubt we would see McQueen’s looks presented in such an artistic way.
I love how she ties in all her looks from just going out and puts them in her video like that. I’m a fan.
The song does sound like a remix, but I love Gaga, and I could listen to her all day.
Music videos have gone down hill. But I see Lady Gaga bringing them back. Single Ladies just had dancing, but this video has an actual story. And amazing styling.

I like Gaga well enough — I’m not really a pop music fan, but I appreciate that she puts in a serious visual effort, and respect that she writes her own music.
But could we please retire the word “haters”? This is not MySpace and I’ll assume the people using it here are not twelve. People are allowed to disagree with the idea that [new artist] is the most fabulous thing since [legendary artist] without being hATerZZzZzz OMfG!!!1!!
Many thanks,

i don’t think gaga is going away any time soon. if people like rihanna and britney can survive with very little talent beyond looking hot, i’m not too worried about someone who can turn out hit after hit while creating substantial buzz for themselves both in music and fashion. other popstars right now should be ashamed at how much they suck in comparison.

#26, I couldn’t be more calm.
It is the very definition of hysterical (and juvenile) to call someone a “hater” just because he or she disagrees with you.
(And “literary discourse” — WTF? Now you’re attacking people like me who say they *like* Gaga! Take it down a few clicks, OK?)

Nicola Formichetti’s styling does not translate well on music videos. I totally forgot they work together because she looks so cheap here. So is he part of her Haus of Gaga? That’s pretty lame if he is. Also if he isn’t too because the way she brands her shit it seems as if all her clothes are done by her.
@9; I guess that explains the face armor. Plus I have to agree with you on the McQueen numbers. It was such an incredible collection and she brought it down so much.
She is so pretentious. There’s an interview of her on Nicola’s blog where she’s playing like she’s shocked guys think she’s sexy. “I feel like I’m changing the way what guys think is sexy”. She’s always trying to give her self credit fir changing the world. She knows damn well she’s sexy or she wouldn’t be walking around dressed like a cheap prostitute.
To everyone who thinks she’s original… she’s not. If you look closely, most all pop artist have started to gravitate towards high fashion. Ciara wore the Thierry Mulger robot looking suit in her video way before Gaga (“Go Girl”).

no #27, no.
no one here has provided a thoughtful opinion on why they dislike gaga or her video. Saying her music “sucks”, that the video is “terrible”, and that gaga looks like “chris crocker” is not an expression of dissimilar taste, it’s hate. And anyone spewing hate should be prepared for a reaction.
Gaga will continue succeeding regardless of anyone’s opinion. I’m attacking YOU because your comment was senseless and took the discussion on an arbitrary tangent.
I suppose it was your supreme maturity that led you back to this page to retort when an anonymous person told you to calm down…
I’m batshit crazy and immature, absolutely, but at least I own it. hater.

#30, Even if she’s not my type of music, Gaga is great (as I’ve already said twice). I just greatly dislike the reductiveness of the term “hater,” as do most grown-ass adults.
I still think it is unnecessary to attack me — and calling me a hater too, now? who the hell am I hating exactly, people who use the term “hater”? that’s too meta for me to process at this hour of the day.
But as I really have no dog in this fight and didn’t intend to add to your irritation … peace.

#32, you’re still trying (and failing) to impose your false sense of maturity upon someone who obviously transcends futile attempts at being edified or rebuked. That’s what you should really learn from this.
nevertheless, hater is not hard to comprehend, and I clearly called you one sarcastically.
mull over it for the next few hours of your day.
peace : )

Jac, I think she looks really thin in some of the shots in which she is supposed to look alien-esque. I think she looks really fit but not emaciated.
I also think that Lady Gaga is something of a modern day Sex Pistols, in that her entire image is much more important than her music, which, like the Sex Pistols, isn’t very good, and serves as more of a social commentary than anything else. Take her self-important “I’m changing the world” attitude. It’s not unlike lots of other celebrities (Angelina Jolie, anyone?), but I think it’s meant to be a critique of people like Angelina rather than serious statement.

Here’s the great thing about the cartoon eyes: they’re just like those old Lanvin ads where they blew up Snejana’s eyes in a hugely cartoony way. LOVE!

i think she is very different from the sex pistols. they were radical for their time and they carried with them a sense rebellion against their current society and music corp. Lady gaga’s image is not groundbreaking at all. Sure ppl can style her is outragous clothing but all it says is “hey everyone look at me! look how unique i’m being! aren’t i so cool?” Pure self promotion
I also think that she is very different from angelina jolie. Angelina jolie i think cares about the people who have less whereas lagy gaga’s goal is again self promotion

@38; I love you. Thats exactly why I didn’t like like her but I just couldn’t really put my finger on it. Simply said, “Shes’s all about self promotion.” Thank you.
