Luella Screws Liberty?

Friday, Nov 13, 2009 / 3:14 PM

luella in lula.jpgWe’ve been far too selfish in grieving Luella.
We completely forgot having announced, just the day before, that Liberty had invited her to decorate their holiday windows and curate an in-store pop-up shop.
She was supposed to have a Christmas grotto complete with cider and Santa and full priced merchandise which would be a fantastic step for Liberty’s let’s-recruit-the-young-hip-fashion-kids movement, except for the fact that now anyone can head over to Mayfair and buy everything half price from the Luella boutique.
We love Luella (surprised?). But is it possible she didn’t know she was folding just twenty-four hours before she did? Because if she did know, and she let Liberty revolve their holiday plans around her, well, yikes.

I see what you’re saying, but Liberty and Luella agreed to this in July. There was a contract, I’d imagine. Even if Luella gave them 24 hours notice, they couldn’t just trash the whole concept a mere month before Christmas, could they?

According to this blog post written on July 21 (http://blog.mydeco.com/2009/07/21/libertys-luella-christmas-2009/), Liberty’s Luella plans go back at least 4 months. This was not something that just happened this week.

It’s not Luella anyway, it’s Luella’s picks of Liberty. Plus, the windows and grotto debuted the day before the loss of backing, as opposed to Luella being invited to do the windows the day before.

I’m confused! What does Luella’s clothes selling for 50% off have to do with Liberty selling non-Luella products that were merely selected by Luella? Why is Britt acting like Luella did something sneaky? Even if she let Liberty know 24 hours ealier, why on Earth would Liberty cancel their whole Christmas plan? They wouldn’t be able to get something new going so quickly, and I don’t know why they’d even want to. Luella’s business going under is due to the economy, not due to her doing something wrong. Or am I missing something, Britt?

That’s a harsh headline, Britt. “Luella Screws Liberty.” Really? How did she do that? Please think before printing such lies.

well she did pose it as a question…and i actually heard people talking about this at a party last night. soo it’s worth talking about. brit even says she hopes it’s not true.
but even if the pop up was planned way before, liberty didn’t announce until the day of, by which time luella had to know, right?

Guest 6, I respectfully submit that even if Luella HAD notified Liberty the day before, what would they then do? Pull all their plans? They had a contract! And why would they pull their plans anyway? The so-called pop-up shop doesn’t feature Luella clothes, it features Liberty products curated by Luella. HUGE difference.

Loool @ Guest #6: “i actually heard people talking about this at a party last night. soo it’s worth talking about.”
Oh, I guess it’s worth talking about then, if you overheard it at a party.
