Rent-A-Proenza

renttherunway.jpgOh the horrible things we’d do for a piece of Proenza or Valli.

Thankfully, we can keep it civil via Rent the Runway; they let you rent what you want without hassle or potential jail time.

The site’s an online community where shoppers can rent designer dresses ranging in price from $50-$200. After signing up for an invite you can browse through everything from Doo.Ri to Brian Reyes, Malandrino to Matthew Williamson which means that even though you’re determined to make it through the holidays without buying a new dress, you don’t have to wear the one you wore last year.

They’ll deliver same-day in New York City and next-day everywhere else and if that’s not easy enough, they’ll even send you two sizes on your first rental, so you don’t have to worry if your temporary Tuleh will be just right.

There goes the only-wear-once problem.

This is amazing, but what if you ruin it? I wouldn't come within 2 miles of a glass of red wine if I was wearing a rented Proenza dress.

I wish this were around when I was in high school. I could have had the most bad ass prom dress ever.

i'm a member, and it's not that great. they have yet to put up anything i would actually want to rent *cough* alexander wang *cough*

plus whoever writes the copy for the site must be like 19. search style categories range from "birthday" to "meet the parents" to "sorority party" to "you-know-its-getting-serious-date"

and yes, if you damage the dress, you've basically bought it.

Has anyone seen the LA based borrowing service, TheStylist LA?

It seems to be geared towards a younger audience, but they have good stuff and take a more styling approach. Also, if you accidentally ruin a dress you don't pay the retail price. I used the service in LA for a few parties and loved it.

This is such a cool idea! I looked at their website... everything is So well priced! Laundering is included, so you do not have to get the dress dry cleaned before sending it back! Their selection is awesome! Sign-up is free.. it's totally worth it.

Other than an apartment, I would never want to "rent" anything else.

And #4 is the fashion victim of the day.
