Would You Go Brow-less?

bleachedbrowsgivenchy.jpgThe bleaching of models’ brows was all the rage for S/S 2010 (and actually was fairly popular the season before at Prada, Balenciaga, and Miu Miu). We’ve been fascinated as to how all the girls’ eyebrows didn’t fall out by the end of Paris Fashion Week.

Today, we went to a Cover Girl lunch with the amazing (and always fun) Pat McGrath and got some answers.

First of all, we had no idea that Pat has had a hair colorist on her team for years. While he does many other things as well, brows often fall to him. Very cool. And considering the lady does around 30 shows a season (not to mention countless editorials and covers), it makes a lot of sense to have everyone you may need at the ready.

She told us that she suggested to the models that they not go through the bleaching process more than twice. Instead, the makeup teams would just color in darker versions when necessary. “Of course some girls insisted on always changing back, but what are you gonna do?” said Pat. We’re sure those ladies are regretting those decisions right about now.

We agree with Pat that playing around with brow color gives a different kind of variety to shows when you’re looking at so many every single day. And we love how the “no-brow” thing makes our favorite models look even more like gorgeous alien-like creatures than usual.

But would you ever try it? We’re thinking a little lightening might be fun—and as Pat noted, it really opens up your face. But going totally platinum sounds a little scary to us.

I have naturally platinum eyebrows, but I dye them a light brown. Maybe it's time to go au naturel?

I think no eyebrows was a good look on Lord Voldemort and also Satan in the Passion movie.
Other than that, mostly not. Yes Lara Stone, even lovely you look bad without brows. For a runway show anything goes but in real life, almost always no.

On Tyra the other week, she had a girl on who wanted to shave off her eyebrows because it was the 'hot new trend.' Tyra offered to shave them off onstage, and let's just say that the result was not very fierce.

I suppose it could work on someone with light complexion, light hair colour and sharp features. Definitely won't work on someone with round face and black hair (i.e me), I'd look like the evil version of Buddha.

I think it's a pretty cool look for the right person, but I've also heard that it can be quite bad for your eyes, using such strong chemicals so close to them. I don't know, that might just be a myth
