“It’s depressing when the clothes don’t fit and you are always the odd one out…I was on a shoot last week and the stylist took out this tight corset dress and said, ‘Here, put it on,’ and I was like, ‘Who are you kidding?’ There was no way, so that was very rude of her. It’s like, come on, she’s a woman; whether you’re buying jeans at the mall, or wearing couture, you know what it’s like for clothes not to fit. It’s not an easy kind of rejections, because it’s very personal. It’s you, your body. You take it to heart.” –Lara Stone to Vogue

get it lara.
i like her a lot, but i hate when magazines report on shit like this, because it’s obviously just a novelty.
like “aw let’s listen to the fat girl” (what is she, a 6?) and then they go right back to the emaciated models next month.

haha, a 6? not even close. she’s probably like a 2-4, and most of the other girls are 0s.
i just think it’s fucked up how tiny samples are, lara is “bigger” than most of the other girls in the industry but she is still super tiny…and clothes won’t fit her? what does that say?

the fact that laura is called “the fat one” speaks volumes about fashion and just how backwards it really is

It is hard to feel the pain of a model who is 6 feet tall and a size 4. These model chicks are way skinny. It’s sad that we put so much stake in how thin our bodies are. I son’t think we are ever that satisfied.

It is quite personal for Lara because a stylist these days knows of her, and knows her body and figure so to suggest a corset with a tight waist, is pretty rude indeed. Maybe being “the fat one” is just what Lara needed – she’s one of the most in-demand models today.

That’ what made her so successful. Why keep complaining??

I don’t think she’s complaining about being her size in the business. I think she is just pointing out a huge problem (that we are all aware of) and that even with her success there is still the issue of stylists/designers recognizing that zero isn’t always better.
Just because this is how she makes her money, doesn’t mean she no longer has feelings. People seem to forget this about the famous.

Lara has reached the level of success in modelling today where she should have dresses sized specifically for her. If a designer chooses to include her in their line up, it’s because they’re looking for that individuality. So wouldn’t it be in their best interest to cater to it?
Anyway, I’m not sure if the hilarious ‘you’re’ at the end is in fact a typo or a reference to limited ability of the industry to separate the individual from their body. Either way it’s interesting.

It doesn’t matter how much Lara is paid. When you work in an industry that prides skin and bones and snubs everyone who is not, it does affect you! Money will not change the fact that clothes that are sent for her to wear do not fit, or the fact that the stylist actually expected her to squeeze into a tiny corset. Do you expect her to curl up to dollar bills at night for comfort?! Come on, have some sympathy!

It’s kind of amazing that lara has become such a big star…she’s so unusual and not-mainstream. But I like it, her personality is cool.

I love how much lipservice the industry pays to the issue of weight.

Oh please Lara, lets not play the pity card here. Of all the girls in the industry, you aren’t the one to complain about – ANYTHING.

Lara is a size 4! She isn’t even an atypical model size! She just has some boobs. I don’t see why everyone thinks she is so different. She’s gorgeous but she’s not “diversity.”

Lara’s size is irrelevant, its her size compared to where she is. Just like a real fat person on the street next to someone of a healthy weight. It hurts.
Annie, I totally agree; it’s in relation to other models’ (not the average woman on the street) to whom she’s being unfavorably compared, so it makes sense in context, even if she is taller/thinner than most of us.
And #16, I read the entire piece and I didn’t feel that she was “complaining” so much as sharing her personal experience, which was obviously hurtful. To suggest that anyone who’s thin/pretty/rich/whatever doesn’t have a right to the same feelings as anyone else is a bit silly. It doesn’t matter what you look like or what you do for a living or how successful you are at it. You still have feelings and if someone is rude/unkind/thoughtless, they’re going to be hurt. To discount that because of how she looks is ridiculous.
