@23 That would be nice and put this stupid playground chatter over anorexia or obesity as the only two possible options in fashion to rest. @24 These women are curvy, not fat. There aren’t double chins or chubby cheeks because while they might be fashion fat, they’re on the average side of things in the real world. Not to mention, everyone carries weight differently. The girl on the left has big thighs and thin arms, smaller breasts. The one on the right is more proportional with some padding all over. They both look fine, and while certainly not skinny, neither is fat by any stretch.

In the real world, there are many women with healthy diets and good exercise routines who are the size of the models in the picture. Heck, there are even Olympic athletes in peak physical condition who are the same size as those girls. In fact, many people who work out a lot and have a lot of muscle mass have BMIs that would put them in the “overweight” or “obese” range, even though they are obviously quite healthy and don’t need to lose weight.

i think these girls look beautiful. yes, i agree that the styling wasnt the best and that their flaws might be highlighted, but that is exactly the point…they are showing that ‘models’ do not have to be extremely skinny or even average to look gorgeous. they went to the extremes to make a point.

yes these girls are huge actually. rolls? thats going too far. Fashion isn’t supposed to be easily accessible. If you want to wear beautiful clothes, work for it! So the clothes can lay right; to take design risks. Speaking of, these clothes aren’t so great…

Fashion needs to stop back pedaling because of all the ‘too thin’ back lash. Who cares?! I hate the shoot because these women’s faces may look gorgeous but their bodies are a whole different story. how is beautifying fat rolls any more acceptable then glorifying skin and bones? Models are as thin as they are for a reason. Exhibit A: The fit of the clothes on these ‘curvey’ models is horrific.

oh, all this “health concern” makes me sick. just admit you don’t like fat people. if it really bothered you all that much, you’d be in almost every other normal model post saying how unhealthy they were. i think these girls look great. not everyone can be the “average” size. some people, even with diet and exercise, still look like this. there is NOTHING wrong with that. and to guest number 30..”fashion isn’t supposed to be easily acessible…if you wanna wear beautiful clothes, you have to work for it!” really? please tell me thats a joke that i’m not picking up on…

Just because someone has more meat on their bones, doesn’t make them automatically curvy. Plus those women aren’t “normal” sized if we are talking about 6-8 being “normal.” I think size 4-8 should be seen more in mags. I understand that some people will never reach those sizes (genetics, I get it), but at least those sizes (4-10) are realistically more feasible (and healthier) than girls trying to reach size 0. We (speaking about America, as an American) have an Obesity issue — it’s been proven time and time again. So maybe if we show girls that being size 4-10 is good in the eye of fashion, good as an achievable image, and can be done in a healthy manner – we can fight the increasing obesity rate (which corresponds to higher rates of diabetes and heart disease)

I like it. More please. I have no idea why people are so worked up over this. And I’m right there with you Leni. Do all you people walk down the street going “oh my god, you’re all unhealthy” to any size 12 woman you see? Doubtful. Stop being school yard bullies, these girls are beautiful.

These girls are FAT. Anyone who doesn’t think so is fooling themselves. That being said, I don’t think everyone should be thin. Variety is a wonderful thing. But when I was growing up, girls this fat were few and far between. And the word anorexia didn’t even exist. Now everywhere I look, I see fat girls who call themselves curvy. There’s a problem here that no one is addressing.

# 35, thank you, took the words right out of my mouth. the average woman i see everyday that comes into my store is always between a size 4-10. in minneapolis, mn. pretty damn “normal” midwesten American city. the sizes just keep on gettin’ bigger, too. i go up 4 “sizes” whenever i travel and shop abroad.

WHY WOULD ANYONE HAVE A PROBLEM CALLING HER CURVY??????!!!! THAT IS CLEARLY WHAT SHE IS. she has curves…so she is “curvy.” Now, if the caption would have read “for those of you who have a problem calling her plus sized..” i think it would have made more sense. It really really gets to me that the words “plus size” and “curvy” have become synonomous in fashion language. They should not be…there are two different things. I think that curvy means: tits and ass; an hourglass figure. A size 2 can be hourglass, so can a size 10.

this is #39, i just realized that what i wrote kind of didn’t make sense. I think what i was trying to say is this: a thin person can be curvy. a plus size person can also be curvy. but it is not fair to thin/(ish) girls who have hourglass figures and are curvy to make curvy and plus size mean the same thing.

what a bunch of fat pigs, there is no excuse for being fat, why do people go crazy at people because they are thin, they cant help that they live healthy lifestyles and arent so lazy that they sit on the couch and choose to eat unhealthily. These fat people just want beauty redefined because they are too lazy and obstinante to put down that second piece of cake.

I’ve got nothing against these girls. I have no idea if they’ve made a niche for themselves and are purposefully staying at a weight that is less than ideal. They’re still beautiful. And this is kind of refreshing. Hopefully this won’t be a novelty. But these photos are terribly styled, and will be the same depiction of beauty. Though they didn’t edit out the rolls, you don’t see an ounce of cellulite or stretch marks on their bodies. Unrealistic. Just like any other photospread. I REALLY hope that “curvy” girls don’t go out trying to buy the stuff they just tried to hawk. They’ll be as disappointed as the rest of us, seeing the reality of many of the clothing on the hangers. If the stuff doesn’t look that great here, what hope is that to the masses? Honestly. And some of the commenters need to calm down. It’s really sad the way some of you are talking about these girls. Sure, they could be thinner and healthier, but neither are some of the skinny models either.

The size of an average person in American according to doctors and media is a size 12. Size 8 is what women aspire to and according to a poll for men, they favored the image of a size 14 girl. But anyway, in america, the average size has been documented to be a size 12. Also size 0 people can eat just as unhealthy as some overweight people, their metabolism is infact just quite better. It is not about how a person eats. While yes, I watch what I eat and I exercise daily, I will probabley never ben anything smaller than a size 8. Unfortunetly I was given large bones (and yes my doctor even stated this to me so I am not making it up). These girls are beautiful in their own right. If you dont like plus size women, or very hefty women (there is is a different between plus sized and DAMN!), then that is your opinion. I will not bash that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on what they like and dont. However, it is not correct to base judgement just because of your opinion on how unhealthy these women are. While I used to be a size 18, my doctor always stated I was healthy. I weighed 200 lbs, but was healthy. My mom on the other hand is 300, yes she is unhealthy, but she also is diagnosed with MS, and has heart problems (a murmur) both which have nothing to do with her weight, but according to the doctor could be helped if she lost a few lbs. Shes lost 20 just by changing her diet. These girls are lovely. I wish I was as pretty as them even though now I am much, much smaller (hopefully to continue because I WANT TO, not because people like some I have seen on here dictate my level of “fatness”) These girls deserve respect for posing and putting themselves out their and feeling comfortable in their own skin. These girls may very well be trying to lose weight, but this isnt about being “FAT” and being a model, it is about being comfortable in the skin you are in NOW while you are in it reguardless of whether you are working to a smaller size or if you simply dont care. Why should bigger women or men not be able to dress the body they have now and look good and get the same oppurtunities everyone else has. Looking good can get you a geat job, help you meet wonderful singles, and make a good impression on clients and so on. They deserve to live. Fashion is a way of life, and everyone on this planet walking is living and they can have fashion. So whether you like these women or not, they get the same oppurtunites as everyone else. You dont have to be attracted to larger women or men, but you do need to respect them expecially for the courage they have showen. It is nothing more than prejudice.

As a stylist myself I have to say that what lets this editorial down the most is the actual styling. The key to dressing well for any body shape is for the clothes to fit and flatter and these don’t. It’s almost as if they are highlighting the negatives on purpose in order to suit their agenda.

In fact, many people who work out a lot and have a lot of muscle mass have BMIs that would put them in the “overweight” or “obese” range, even though they are obviously quite healthy and don’t need to lose weight.

yes, i agree that the styling wasnt the best and that their flaws might be highlighted, but that is exactly the point…they are showing that ‘models’
do not have to be extremely skinny or even average to look gorgeous.
they went to the extremes to make a point.

Plus those women aren’t “normal” sized if we are talking about 6-8 being “normal.”
I think size 4-8 should be seen more in mags.

I think what i was trying to say is this:
a thin person can be curvy. a plus size person can also be curvy.
but it is not fair to thin/(ish) girls who have hourglass figures and are curvy to make curvy and plus size mean the same thing.

what a bunch of fat pigs, there is no excuse for being fat, why do people go crazy at people because they are thin, they cant help that they live healthy lifestyles and arent so lazy that they sit on the couch and choose to eat unhealthily.

As a stylist myself I have to say that what lets this editorial down the most is the actual styling. The key to dressing well for any body shape is for the clothes to fit and flatter and these don’t. It’s almost as if they are highlighting the negatives on purpose in order to suit their agenda.
