What We Want to See at the Golden Globes, & What We Will See

Last year we outlined our Oscar dream dresses. Not for us, but for our favorite nominees.
This year, we’re starting awards season on time with this weekend’s Golden Globes.
We’ve picked the dresses we wish they’d wear, but followed up with more realistic options. As the wise Rachel Zoe has taught us, the US Weekly-reading, Best-Dressed-Voting, American public doesn’t always favor fashion forward dresses.
Carey Mulligan’s kicking things off. We’re shocked no one’s worn this Proenza mini-dress. The petite Miss Mulligan’s the perfect candidate with her tiny frame, pale skin, and pixie cut. But if it’s still too cold for cut outs, this Givenchy will be spectacular. Yes, it’s still fashion forward, but it’s basically made for Carey. Like Kate says, “It’s perfect, nipples and all.”

January Jones: We’d love to see the Mad Men star in the tiered Chloé dress above, mostly because we’d love to see it on anyone. But Jones sticks to a red carpet diet of tight and sexy, so at least the Lanvin below is creative.
Emily Blunt: Maybe we’re dreaming of her Devil Wears Prada character, but if anyone in Hollywood could pull off this bird-printed Ann Demulemeester gown above, it’s Blunt. We wish she’d go for it, but the purple Bottega Veneta below is probably more realistic, and 100% worthy of any Best Dressed lists.
Julianne Moore: The star of A Single Man‘s never had a fashion misstep. The olive green Lanvin jumpsuit above may look a bit casual, but we’re betting on Bulgari jewels to make it more exciting. Will she wear it? No, but we can’t wait to see her custom Tom Ford.

Lea Michelle: If we could, we’d put everyone in Antonio Berardi. Any starlet who’s seen the collection should be considering a short dress. Out of all of our “we wish” picks, the black Berardi above might actually make it onto the red carpet. If not, the Glee star tends to go for pastel colored, feminine looks like the Burberry below (since she already wore this, on Monday).
Marion Cotillard: Someone has to wear this Chanel. It’s unique enough for Marion (and would look fantastic with the curly hair she rocked earlier this week), but there’s only a slim chance she’s not contracted to wear Dior. And so if you’re listening Marion, the look below would be best.
Penelope Cruz: Cruz wouldn’t wear the Alberta Ferretti above in a million years, but with her rich brown hair and the right shoes – these? or these? – it’d be perfect. Otherwise, the red Victoria Beckham column below is like classic Penelope, but cooler.

That was so FANTASTIC! I defiantely agree with you. I did see the Alberta Ferriti dress and hoped a celebrity would wear it but the length, is a bit too short, making it longer will give it more elegance.

These dresses are phenomenal. Before this season, I wasn’t ever excited about The Golden Globes but now I cannot wait. Carey Mulligan is an incredible actress…these dresses are incredible…I can barely form coherent thoughts…oh, and Marion Cotillard…wow…just…wow…nice work (yet again) Fashionista.com…wow…

All extremely accurate! I love the one for Carey Mulligan – she’s my favourite up and comer ! I would also love to see Marion Cotillard in the Chanel gown you’ve chosen – it would be absolutely stunning ! She manages to be iconic and beautiful but current at the same time
