project-runway video game.jpgThis morning, Fashion Week mastermind IMG announced that it has created a Project Runway-themed video game in conjunction with 505 Games and Lifetime. The game is set to be released later on this year.
Of course, this isn’t the first fashionable game to come along. H&M set up shop in The Sims all the way back in 2007 and since then, fashion gaming titles have included “Fashion Week: Junior Stylist,” released by 505 in June 2009 and “Style Lab: Makeover,” part of the Style Lab line from Ubisoft.
A source within the gaming industry–who has played a role in creating of few of these titles–says that right now, there’s a huge market for fashion games. Her company, along with its competitors, have entire teams dedicated to the subject.

I was wondering when people would start getting into fashion gaming. Question is, will the women/girls gamers are marketing respond to it. Gamer girls like boy-like games. Non-gamer girls still love their traditional editorial and online magazines. I guess we’ll see. xoxo JessZaino.Blogspot.com

I’m shocked that a “Project Runway” game is being released. To echo the previous comment, I’m unsure who this game would be marketed towards – games such as this don’t tend to do well when it comes down to the consumer. But I’d try it anyway, out of curiousity :)

My sentiments exactly Melissa H. I’m being bugged by curiosity too. But from my point of view, Project Runway should stick with the show than to toy with unsure prospects. But what the hey? We don’t know, it might turn into a hit. :)

I actually agree with you both, but my source works on fashion games and she says that they do indeed make a lot of money for these companies. (She doesn’t work in the pr or marketing leg of the company, so I know she’s not bs-ing me.) However, I think it might be more of a tween and young teen thing. We’re going to get a review copy and see what it’s all about.
