Dolce & Gabbana: Simply Divine
By Lauren Sherman
This season, brands that defined 1990s style–like Prada and Gucci–revisited favorite looks from that era. While I covet Prada‘s loafers and print dresses, even Miuccia admitted that she simply refreshed old ideas.
Dolce & Gabbana, also a ’90s favorite, could have done the same. But instead, they took their ideal girl’s ideal wardrobe–black tuxedo jacket, bustier dress, lingerie-inspired satin dress, lace blouse–and made it fresh and lady-like, something the ’90s certainly wasn’t.
While we liked Prada, there was something stale and creepy about the collection. For Miuccia, that perverseness works. For Dolce & Gabbana, modernity was the essential element.
Inspired by Sicilian style, there was lots of black lace, polka dots, and luscious red velvet in simple, waist defining shapes.
The color palette was right up my alley, but it was my longtime dream to look like Apollonia–Michael Coleone’s first wife in The Godfather–that cemented my dedication to the collection. These clothes aim to make you look that beautiful.
