Exclusive: Y-3 Plans A Crazy Laser Show For Sunday
By Lauren Sherman
Y-3 is already known for its attention-grabbing runway shows. Last season, there was a footie game with designer Yohji Yamamoto and French soccer icon Zinedine Zidane. For Fall/Winter 2009, there were ice walls inside Pier 40, and before that, a backdrop of waterfalls cascading from the High Line.
But this year promises to be even more thrilling. Our tipster, who is working on the show, told us this: “I literally walked into [the Park Avenue Armory] and stood there with my mouth open.”
What could be so heart-stopping? Well, our source says that Y-3 is working with London-based firm United Visual Artists, which has produced installations and shows for everyone from U2 to Prada to T magazine. While we don’t have too many details, we do know this:
–The show will incorporate futuristic laser technology.
–There is some sort of smoke/dry ice/something like that involved, so expect a hazy runway.
They’ve been working on the concept for several months, which suggests that it should be good stuff. We’ll keep you updated.
