Fall 2010 New York

Frank Tell’s Color Theory

Watching Frank’s collection last night was actually exciting.

The clothes transitioned from black, to gray, to camel, to pale blue and finally into white, and I felt like I was back in my color theory class in college—and I loved color theory.

Alongside his palette experiments, he worked with texture, layering black on black on black, gray on gray on gray, and so-on. The effect was a clean-looking collection, though neither simple nor minimal. It was just right.

Frank gave us a lot of knits and a good dose of leather, most memorably in dress form under long coats, leather jackets and stunning shaggy knit sweaters—my favorite pieces by far.

If Frank’s dressing me, next fall can’t come soon enough.
