I interviewed Gwen Stefani backstage before LAMB yesterday.

I wanted to gush, and tell her that “Tragic Kingdom’s” one of the only albums I can listen to all the way through, and have been for fifteen years now (woah), but I controlled myself, maybe blushed a bit, and asked Fashion Week appropriate questions.

Like, “You were probably the first celebrity, like legitimate talented celebrity to launch a clothing line–”

“Was I?”

“Yes! Were you surprised when everyone else jumped on the bandwagon?”

“I was more surprised–I mean I have so many things going on that I’m not really focusing on other people. I’m really self-centered! No, I mean the way that music is now, people are doing so many other thigs to make a lving which is a natural progression of society and the world and music and who knows. But I love doing it. I mean I started LAMB because I wanted somethign that I loved and was passionate about and I didn’t know if I’d still be doing music.”

Do you think about your collections when you’re making your fragrances?

“When I started Harajuku lovers I was making a world around the music, for the fans. It was a surreal idea that just kept building and building and building. I had no idea it’d turn into this. I was hoping it could! But I mean the girls and the dolls and the fragrance took it too a whole other level that I fantasized about, but never expected to see. So it’s just mind-blowing to me. I love working on it, it’s really challenging and super abstract.”

As for the clothes, check out Morgan’s pictures!

Ah, Gwen Stefani fulfills all my 19-year-old expectations! Is it weird that I'm still completely obsessed?

Nope. She's awesome and she can actually design a great collection of clothes unlike most of these celebs who think they can design do. So many great pieces and they are so wearable. I truly like this collections and the belt placement, lovely!

I think she is the inspiration and takes a huge role in the creative process. I'm not sure she actually sits around sketching and draping and overseeing technical issues, am very curious as to who is working under her/with her and the entire creative process as well. None the less I do love the line and wear it proudly.

I'm generally a fan of Gwen Stefani's, but I still remember this an incident when I was living in Tokyo. I was 16 or 17 and had a backstage pass for one of No Doubt's concerts. I was there with a couple of fellow expat friends and we were pretty excited about possibly meeting the band. The guys ended up being lovely, but we weren't allowed to see Gwen because she “only wanted to meet Japanese girls.” I guess we couldn't compete with the Harajuku style! Oh well.

I'm embarrassed to admit but I was crayzeeeee about “Just a Girl” and “Spiderwebs” back then

When Doug Liman's “Go” came out with “New” and the most wicked catchy soundtrack ever, I became a life member of her fanclub.

I'm actually trying to secure fiance for my new documentary called “Underneath it All: Gwen Wants to be Japanese”

Gavin will be in charge of the soundtrack.

I've always liked Gwen Stefani, however I feel like based on these responses she doesn't play a big role in the creative process. I know she is a “Celebrity” designer but I always felt she was different…now I am starting to wonder. Who is behind the magic of L.A.M.B?

Gwen is incredible, beautiful, and let's be honest, as much as we obsess over Gaga, “Paparazzi” could have been on “Love.Angel.Music.Baby.” But @fashionfootie the looks she crafts for the runway are spotty and definitely not always wearable. For herself — yeah, she's always on point.

Spotty in what sense? That they are not a cohesive collection?

I have loved Gwen since I was in college and No Doubt was a local band that played frat parties and festivals around town. Even then she had a quality that made her seem like a star. I've admired her evolution over the years. She seems true to herself.

Cohesion I don't think has been an issue so much as the at times cheap-looking fabrics and finish on her garments. @Hanna agree about seeming true to herself.

don't insult the loveliness that is Gwen with a comparison to footface Gaga.

the point was gaga bites off of gwen's originality

No Doubt was the first band I really loved back in high school and Gwen has consistently been an inspiration and role model. I loved watching her style develop throughout the years and hope that there's more to come!
