On Wednesday, word leaked that Prada’s cast would be surprising and yesterday morning we listed a few things we’d like to see.

In the afternoon, Kate & I sat in front of the computer and waited for a surprise. The clothes? Brilliant. The hair? Amazing. The camera’s focus on Lauren? Fun.

But the surprise? We saw Doutzen and Alessandra, but kept waiting for something revolutionary. After all, someone behind the scenes promised, “this line up will shake the earth with surprise.”

And now everyone’s aflutter because Miuccia traded out a couple of teenagers with boy bodies for a handful of woman with breasts and hips? Miranda Kerr’s the same size as Natalia Vodianova; Alessandra Ambrosio’s probably the same size as Iris, with a slightly bigger bra size; yes, Doutzen was the biggest girl on Prada’s runway, but despite the fact that she looks quite plump here, she’s a quarter the size of an average woman in real life.

So when Cathy Horyn says, “voluptuous,” or HollywoodLife writes, “this could have earth-shatteringly positive consequences,” and only Sarah Mower feels the need to clarify, “relatively curvaceous,” it doesn’t sit right.

It’s great to see these women, who all happen to be Victoria’s Secret models, on the runway, but the build up and consequent “revolutionary” talk is silly. Or like Kate says, “The biggest letdown in the universe.”

Well that's not a very riveting surprise. :(

At least their trying, but we all know this is a publicity trend.

she looks quite plump in this photo? are you serious? she looks like a 6-8 at most in that photo. that's not overweight, even by BMI standards at her height. it's comments like that that haunt women – we're terrified of that photo that makes us look quite plump.

god, doutzen is not a 6/8. doutzen is a 2. that dress isn't doing her figure any favors, that's all.

She DOES look plump regardless of what her size is. Obviously we know what she looks like underneath it all so everyone can stop moaning about it. That dress sucks, makes her look dumpy…let's blame Prada for a lackluster collection. Thanks.

plump where?? boobs where?? lol… haha…. a size 2 – 8 is by no means plump. what is wrong with effing ppl. where are the real woman that wear these clothes.

She looks plump because the dress is all wrong for her…and ugly in my opinion.
This is just a publicity stunt….no real kick.

LOVE IT. Prada did a good deed, and I give them kudos.

I think that this was actually a pretty big deal. Russell Marsh (Prada's casting director) has been the major proponent of 15 year olds with 33 inch hips dominating the runways. For him to cast a ton of girls for Prada (not just Doutzen, Miranda, and Alessandra: Cat, Bianca, Lara, Joan, Vanessa, Maryna, Samantha, etc) in their twenties, with bodies that are undeniably womanly, represents something significant.

they live in new york and the outter streets of LA

not a good look at all. the casting was so…ODD…. same with Versace HEESH. This season is just so haphazard! I miss them shows circa 2006-2008.

I was hoping their casting might, for once, be more racially diverse.

about time fashion lines need to realize that real people out there arent skinny and honestly its nasty im not saying to be fat but have some meat on u … that goes for both men a nd women and also height i feel the same way im a male model who is 5'7 and i really know how to walk on a runway really well but i get shot down just because of my height and out in the real world im not even short im average height but in the modeling world im a midget that needs to change

Why would you believe theimagist.com when it said that the lineup with shake up the earth? Wayne is always full of hyperbole. Everything he says should be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism. The lineup at Prada hardly created even a low rumble

i'm sorry to do this, but boy bodies, really? way to insult girls who are simply built that way (i know some of this is starvation, but even healthy girls sometimes lack defined hips and breasts). if it has a V***** it is a woman's body. LEARN THIS ALREADY PEOPLE.

wow. that dress is pretty ugly, even though its prada. Goes to show not evey name brand gets it right all the time. MK is my favorite vikki model! That dress is just hideous on her. She is crurvy, but tiny. Curvy does not mean you have to be gigantic, and skinny doesn't mean you have to be all skin and bones, look depressed, and have the body of a boy. Get real people! Curves are the best!!!!

surprise surprise… =/

Anyone who thinks that Doutzen looks “plump,” even in that dress, has a very, very warped perspective. She looks skinny — merely not like an outright walking corpse, the way the other emaciated models do.

You're not of average height for a male. Just thought you should know that…

The average height of a male is 5 feet 9 1/2 inches. The average female heigh is 5 feet 4 inches.

I think not whether it is fat or thin, I see a very serious peiando, a dress and a very serious pantyhose who wish not to be serious, if you leave hair or a loose ponytail, and more red lips and a strident color we will not feel fat or anything, we should see something sexy, that's what sells, be sexy. without being (you know) and we do not transmit the model.

we arent talking fat here are we? the girls writing in on the page who are obese seem to think its the trend, to be really really fat

oh wow what she like 92ibs? yah thats totally skinny :P not

Actually I'm an 8 and OK with admitting I'm “plump”. I'll stop trolling over here and head back to http://goingconcern.com where I belong. Anyone want a donut?

sounds like youre getting angry that anorexic models are out and that feminine silhouettes are in. everyone knows that prada is a leader in their casting decisions, and what models they use will be the new standard. you are such a pro-anorexic, predjudiced towards thin models

oh come on….you don't have to be anorexic to be skinny….and you don't have to be courvy to be beautiful….peace;;)

If you think this very tall and slender model looks “plump” in this (ugly, retro) dress, imagine what the average slim woman would look like in it. Sorry Lauren, but this Prada collection really is not designed to make women look good.

welcome back to fashion, women who look good in clothes.

I'm thin, I mean naturally thin. I know that most of the women are “curvy” but it isn't my case. “Thin” does not mean “anorexic”. So think a little bit. Anorexia is bad. Snejana onopka is a bad case but look on coco rocha, behati prinsloo, irina lazaeranu. Why don't you want to keep thin models ? It isn't realist if they are all curvy. You have complexes and put itt off on the models that you don't know in person. point.

I have to agree here that when the fashion industry talks about 'curvy' women, they are actually talking about very skinny women as opposed to very very skinny women- I find it alarming that there are people who can refer to the pictured model as 'plump' without a hint of irony- surely the only people who could say that are anorexics, or worse- pro- anorexics who are happy to promote a dangerous idea and watch other people starve for it. Whilst I may enjoy fashion, there is a really horrible underbelly to the industry, and to it's followers, which is quite sad really…

“Good” is relative.

For a high fashion runway show, seeing that photo come from it is fairly surprising. She does actually look like a 'plus' size model in that particular photo, mostly because her torso looks square, and cuts her arms unflatteringly. I don't think its anything super shocking, but the fact that these designers are using models with an itsy bit more meat is a positive thing. Obviously there are people that are naturally super-skinny, but it shouldn't be that this is the only acceptable runway look. Diversity is interesting, and if a girl that is already very slim has some hips and breasts, she shouldn't be encouraged to lose that in order to have a career.
