Sophia Kokosalaki Does Diesel With Aplomb
By Lauren Sherman
Sophia Kokosalaki might be renown for her ability to drape a dress, but few knew what to expect when it was announced she would take over as lead designer at Diesel Black Gold, Renzo Rosso’s attempt at bringing high design to his denim brand. (Rosso is also an investor in Kokosalaki’s namesake label.)
Good news: Kokosalaki succeeded in making Diesel Black Gold cool, covetable and true to the brand by making great jeans, great leather jackets and even a few fun party dresses. My favorite looks:
- Leather shorts topped with a white mohair sweater.
- Body-con tie-dyed dress.
- A pair of perfectly worn-in, high-waisted jeans matched with a sweatshirt held together by safety pins.
