To be frank, we’re surprised it’s taken this long for someone to rip off Alexander Wang’s Rocco duffel.

He rolled out his first bag at the beginning of last year, on the arms of his downtown favorites like the Trainas and Mary Kate Olsen, before it hit stores last summer. It’s since become a favorite of Meredith Melling Burke’s and every model under the sun. The textured leather duffel bag, with four rows of studs and teeny tiny handles, retails for $895 (while the Baby Rocco goes for $695), when it’s not sold out.

NastyGal’s selling their copy for $120, which is nuts for a fake, especially one made of fake leather. (Though we will admit, we love the addition of a long strap.) The bag looks too long, the studs are too shiny, and as someone pointed out, “Isn’t it just a bit…too obvious?”

We’re still anti-CFDA campaigning, but if Alex wants to drum up some attention by filing a law suit, we could get behind that.

I hate the Rocco, but the copying is clear so he should sue. I have to say, though, the fake leather looks better (in the pictures) than the real thing.

Yeah – I don't think that particular photo is doing the original justice.

i love studded accessories too but there are so many ways of incorporating them into your wardrobe WITHOUT buying a knockoff!

oh, come on. i really hate nastygal, but if alexander wang put out the fake version everyone would praise it. you are only pointing out the negative points because it's not alexander wang's.

also, the suggestion of suing? think about what you just wrote. you are suggesting that alexander wang SUE someone for putting studs on the bottom of a leather duffle.

Guess Alexander Wang better sue whoever made my mom's old leather duffel like that too- oh wait, hers is from the seventies.

i actually saw a rip-off in zara, in the trf section, in november i think. it was about 30-40$

Why would Alexander Wang put out a knock-off of a bag that he designed?

I took one look at that site and said no thanks!

I read these adventures in copyright postings and am confused as to WHY you call it a copyright issue? There is no legal claim that Wang could make. It's a bag. Bags get knocked off all the time. Unless Wang could make a trade dress or design patent claim (which is doubtful), then stop posting these articles that have NOTHING to do with copyright.

I love the fact that you put in that patent-ing line. I was thinking the same thing!

Though I do guess I can understand these adventures in copyright posts…

Because it's a good way to make extra money he wouldn't have otherwise. Sort of like a jewelry designer putting out a CZ version of a necklace or ring they made with real diamonds.

Both bags are so ugly who cares? I wouldn't pay $1 for them at a garage sale.

I love the Rocco bag. The knockoff is horrible! What a waste of money!
