I felt silly taking pictures of the YSL logo beamed onto the cement floor of the Grand Palais until Fabien Baron rolled up next to me and broke out his blackberry.

The YSL show may share a venue with Chanel, but aside from that single special effect, it’s a more sedate affair. Except for the photographers of course, who practically climbed on top of Carine to snap pics of Catherine Deneuve and stayed on the runway past lights out for a shot at Kylie Minogue.

When the show did start, I had trouble paying attention to the clothes. They were black and big and almost nun-like. Models’ floppy black hats, either in straw or leather, nearly covered their faces and most looks came with massive gold medallions either of the YSL logo or a woman’s silhouette. The music, however, was amazing. James Murphy and LCD Soundsystem were set up at the front of the runway and I wished they’d keep playing long after Siri’s bright yellow pouf ended the show.

Afterward, in the Metro with Susie and Alex, Bill Cunningham rushed up, “Will you look at that?!” he gestured, “It’s just gone down the runway and she’s already wearing it!”

True, Susie was wearing a vintage plastic raincoat under her camel coat, and I liked hers better.
