Stella Shrinks Her Gap Kids Clothes

Thursday, Mar 25, 2010 / 1:42 PM

We had a rough morning with Stella McCartney’s GapKids collection.

The problem?

She cut everything smaller this season, so more kids can buy it, and fewer fashion editors. But it’s even better than the last which means we want everything. Her first collection for Gap, which launched just a few months ago, sold out of everything large within hours. This time around, we got there early-before it opened to the public early-but it didn’t matter. There was no hope for the little girls’ clothing, so we did our best with the boys’ XL.

Lauren took home a striped sweater and a braided rainbow belt (if you were born before 1990, you probably had one). The crochet dresses and rompers were particularly cute, if there’s a baby in your life. And my lifelong dream of having a Giles SS10 dino bag has been temporarily satisfied by Stella’s stegosaurus pajama pack. Unfortunately, the pajamas inside don’t quite fit over my ankle, but if you see me pulling my cell phone out of a giant blue dinosaur, don’t make fun, it’s the next best thing (until I get my hands on a Gremlin).

wow. desperate, anyone? lol.

i'm curious – what's the point of buying a boy's sweater that looks like any regular old gap sweater, other than to say it's got a Stella label on it? i understand getting something because it has her signature design flourishes (like the crochet dress, if it would fit you), but that sweater is wholly uninteresting.

word up.

are you seriously complaining about sizes when you were able to purchase these before EVERYONE else?

I liked the colorways–slate blue and peach–and I liked the buttons on the shoulder.

LOL, do you actually think these editors *paid* for anything?

yeah probably didnt pay for it
but i thought theres some rule now about having to write in the entry if they get free stuff
blah
and LOL at the colorways comment

blue and orange + buttons? EVERY SEASON of GAP has some variation of that.

seriously

we did pay for it, & we do explicitly say when we're reviewing a gifted product

No one should drop serious cash on that sweater. A Stella tag does not make it good. Everyone had this sweater/shirt in middle school, then high school…yeah I don't think they've stopped making them. Why did Stella design it again?
You could have told me this was 5 years ago American Eagle, and I wouldn't have argued.

And although I LOVE that dinosaur pack…with it's googly eyes and smiling mouth, it's looking a little creepy pictured beside topless girls. Lol. Is there some symbolism there? A message that I'm missing???
