In February, the CFDA announced its newest project, The Fashion Incubator.
The council chose 12 designers to work in their Garment Center building, each with their own studio, including Prabal Gurung, Subversive’s Justin Giunta, and Bibhu Mohapatra.
While the designers appear to be having fun decorating their new space, it sounds like they’re having even more fun spreading out and building their new collections in rooms with windows. “At times you might have found us cross-legged on the floor finishing up orders for shipment,” said Yuhvi Alpert of Ruby Kobo of his old digs.
Meanwhile, the CFDA’s awards are just over a month away and while some, like Michael Kors and Kim Hastreiter are guaranteed awards, others are still up to a final vote, including the popular vote. Voting’s gone live on WWD, where you can pick your favorite designer of 2009. Casting your vote also enters you into a drawing for the chance to win tickets to New York Fashion Week.
See you there!
