This morning Tavi tweeted, “OOPS, I violated Blogger’s Terms of Service so they made my blog private. Not sure what I did and I don’t find out for a couple days. Blah.”

Of course, we wanted to know why, but Google takes a few days to explain their actions and so far Tavi’s guess is as good as ours.

Last week, in honor of her 14th birthday she posted this celebratory picture of Maggie Rizer posing nude but for her black boots in a ad circa 1998.

“So I shall post this photo of Maggie Rizer from Yohji Yamamoto’s Spring 1998 campaign-ribbons seem appropriate for a birthday. 13 was an unbelievably good and lucky year and I hope 14 is good too,” she wrote.

This afternoon she tweeted, “Looks like it was the Yohji photo. Oh come ON.”

We couldn’t agree more. Whoever complained to Blogger, or its owner Google, should be embarrassed.

I bet Anne Slowey turned her in. ;)

You know what annoys me about these hosts, they shut down BEFORE contacting the owner and asking them to fix the issue or ask for an explanation. Most times it's someone with an agenda! Tavi definitely should have her own domain.

Blogger is really strict when it comes to their and they monitor there site very closely, so I doubt someone blabbed.

No they shouldn't be embarrassed. She did something wrong. Therefore she's getting what she deserves.

whatever shuts her down works for me..I'm tired of Tavi the Terror.

how was she doing something wrong? it's her own damn blog.

I don't know. I actually don't believe in posting nudity and she's underage, so I really don't like that.

Maybe people feel it's different for women from men, but I don't see it personally. I'm different.

Well they keep nudity on Blogger private, and if one has to register a whole blog as a nude blog and a regular blog posts nudity … well the issue is the public seeing it. The public “shouldn't”. She also must have peers reading her blog who are legally not allowed to see that, and I agree with that. What is now-14-year-old Tavi doing with nude photos? THIS is how fashion can get dangerous with its ubiquitous nudity – style is not just for 18+ and I don't agree if someone says it's not sexual. It's always sexual to some!!

I have to agree with the others, even though Tavi might feel like an 80 year old women trapped in a 14 year old body, a lot of young people post on her blog. As long as she puts that there could be nudity on her blog, I don't care if she only wants to post naked chicks in boots all day long.

I agree with what you're saying about the nudity, I actually didn't want to give an opinion on that argument it was more the taking down of a blog without speaking to the owner first, I've seen it happen to other blogs and websites and the palava that you have to go through to get it reinstated is a nightmare. I guess in this case it is a little bit more complex, but I just feel there are better ways for hosts to consider when dealing with these issues.

Jami, may I ask politely and out of curiosity only why you read Fashionista? Could you also explain further why you feel Tavi has done something wrong? Or maybe just why you think nudity is wrong? If you don't like nudity – definitely don't click on my blog.

I am going to play Devil's Advocate here and say that technically, she did do something wrong. If the rules of the blog host are that there is to be no nudity – then any person that agrees to those terms agrees not to post nude photos. It is not up to the host to determine if the nude photo is done tastefully or with art in mind – if it is a nude photo, it is against the rules.

It is a slippery slope once you start making determinations between this photo that contains nudity is OK versus that photo that contains nudity is NOT OK. If you ban nudity of all types/kinds, it makes the rules easy to understand.

Hunnie, I'm all for equality and freedom of speech, expression, and all the jazz…but who in gray Hell is Jami JoAnne Russell? That chile irks my nerves to absolutely no end. And please, please, PLEASE don't try to mask this as humor. It's not. A bee flying down someone's pant stinging them on the ass is comical. A mosquito buzzing around the ears threatening Malaria or Yellow Fever is not. And Jami JoAnne Russell is that mosquito.

If Tavi shouldn't be allowed to post saggy breasts on her blog, then JJAR (notice the striking similarity to Jar-Jar [as in Binks]) shouldn't be allowed to own a computer.

With all due respect, why are people worried about “young people” coming across Tavi's blog and finding this seemingly horrific nude imagery? It's from a fashion shoot, meaning it was from a fashion magazine, meaning that any kid can waltz into a newsagency, corner store or library and pick up a magazine and see the very same kind of images, if not more explicit.

OR, heaven forbid, said kids could wander into just about any art gallery and see similar imagery from throughout the ages.

Tavi did break the TOS and it's unfortunate that Blogger/Google haven't found a better system than simply suspending a site and sorting out the details over the course of a few days as they see fit, but all the bizarre tangents coming from one fairly innocuous (and Renaissance-esque) image is a little baffling to me.

Honey, SPOT ON!

But then, that would be too sensible, no?

Things are much more fun when they're complicated to all Hell. PANDEMONIUM!!!

I'm with Kit and Ian on this one. Anyone who thinks nudity is inappropriate is insane. Museums are filled with the stuff and have been for centuries. (And who on earth would argue that museums are inappropriate for children except wingnut fundies?!?)
Just because this current decade in America is frigid doesn't mean the rest of the world has to be.
Bodies, in all their sizes and styles, are beautiful, natural, and REAL.

If Google says “No nudity”, then anyone who posts nude pictures is breaking the rules. It's as simple as that. By accepting Blogger's terms and conditions when she signed up, Tavi agreed to follow the rules. It's not complicated, people. Whether or not you think the rules are right is irrelevant.

I just think it's really inappropriate for a 12-year-old to be posting nude photos on a website. I really think her parents are taking a laissez faire attitude of raising her too an extreme.

I totally went to stylerookie.com for the first time on her birthday to see what all the craz is about her and I saw this picture thinking it was pretty bold of her and I was impressed with how much knowledge she has as a recently turned 14 year old. I had a feeling it would have been this pic when I first read her bold was shut down. Anyways, I hope all goes well.
