I’ve been captivated by Nomia’s sleek yet feminine designs since Gen Art’s presentation at fashion week, so I decided to head over to designer Yara Flinn’s Williamsburg studio to find out more about the up-and-coming brand.
The label’s following includes some of the coolest girls in New York, so you can trust that Nomia is the brand to wear if you want to stand out at a fashion party, dinner party, or just walking down the street.
Aside from the wonderful clothes, Yara’s studiomate, photographer Alex John Beck, made my day. His cat popped out five kittens five days ago, which means I may be getting a kitten in the near future….

BOOORRRING and ANYTHING BUTTTT original– ripping off all the other 1000 downtown NY designers…Shelly Steffe, Alex Wang, VPL blah blah… but whatever she tries to kiss the right A*** and name drops just like all the other wannabes so she probably is entitled to a second of attention.
Fabulous! MariaL, until you've owned a Nomia item, please don't comment…..the fabrics and design are anything but boring and they are quite original — did you see the gen art show?

You guessed wrong….I'm not a friend and I shop enough – some would say too much, but I don't listen to them. I'm a genuine fan of the designer. Found her in a boutique on Rivington and liked her items since. Experience is everything…………..
this makes me soo mad! umm what's so different about her clothes? i have seen those outfits a billion times! At least 5 of those looks are essentially alexander wang and I love how she is trying to claim she came up with the neutral, light pink, light blue color palette… just shows how connections are everything
kalipearls- i like that you say the fabrics and design are everything and original… maybe it is all about the fabric but there is no way you can argue they are original designs, maybe original to you but certainly not to the fashion world.
Agreed… majorly boring. Tired of all of the designer wannabes with parents floating their lines. Please show us some designers with, as RuPaul says, CREATIVITY UNIQUENESS NERVE and TALENT.
Doesn't look hugely original to me, very 'downtown NY'….must say Yara Flinn is v. pretty though, I remember ElleGirl running a small dress-up feature with her back in 2005, when she was still an art student.
