The Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology will bestow its annual honor upon Karl Lagerfeld this September, at the start of New York Fashion Week.

Somehow, the prolific designer's actually expected to attend the awards ceremony and stick around for Fashion's Night Out (at Anna's behest, we're sure) despite the fact that he'll have to show three collections---Fendi, Lagerfeld and Chanel---in the following weeks.

Valerie Steele, the museum's director, told WWD they'd chosen Karl because "He is not just incredibly respected within the fashion world, but also known to everybody and instantly recognizable.” And though they do honor a designer every year, this year they've named a special award, the Fashion Visionary.

There's so much buzz around Fashion Week already that it feels like it should start next week, and not next September (but thank god it doesn't).
