We need a perfect intern, starting now.

You must:

  • Like to write. We love stylists & graphic designers & photographers, but interning at Fashionista is 85% writing.
  • Be available three days a week (Monday through Friday) from 11-4, give or take an hour on either end.
  • LOVE fashion. Like love fashion. You should know what Marc Jacobs has to do with Perry Ellis, but you should also know who Katie Hillier and Marie Amelie SauvĂ© are. You should know which buyer snapped up Proenza Schouler’s graduate collection. You should know who styles the Prada show, who’s the Style Director of Elle and who edits Purple. You should know the name of Grace Coddington’s book and why Giles has been showing in Paris for the past two seasons. Those are the basics, we’ll teach you the rest.
  • Be a self-starter. The best part about interning at Fashionista is the freedom. It’s also the hardest part.

If that sounds like you, email work@fashionista.com with a brief cover letter and your resume (which should not be longer than one page) in the body of the email. Unfortunately, due to the sheer number of responses, we won’t be able to contact everyone, but if we think you’re right for the job, we’ll be in touch immediately. Thanks!

Too bad there's elsewhere better where I already intern and no need of big head (big butt) bitches like Britt around.

oh and Julie Gilhart DUH

and if its 85% you should figure out that there is a KNOW missing from the statement “LOVE fashion. Like love fashion. You should <HERE> what Marc Jacobs has to do with Perry Ellis…”

Wow, was that really necessary? Obviously you're not interested in the internship. But I assure you others will be. So you enjoy the internship that's “elsewhere better”.

Lollove, do you need a hug or something? Calm down, life is too short.

WOW I LOVE fashion, but not even I could fill in 2 of the blanks….I'm def a designer and not a fashion editor….Good luck finding an intern Fashionista!!!

as long as it pays it's still legal. :) good luck, girls!

I thought you were gone, but now that you're back, may I ask why you've continued to read and comment on Fashionista for over two years when I obviously drive you insane?

Too bad you guys want someone to physically take up a chair in your offices, because I could do all this by email. At the very least, I'd love to proofread posts and do a bit of editing.

I'm with Kristen: I love fashion but I didn't know most of those answers off the top of my head! I'm sure you'll have absolutely no problem finding a fabulous person to fill the position, tho.

yes i would love that too.

Because everyone else, and even you (when you're just reporting news not talking about yourself and your opnions) do quite a good job…

Congratulations on finally learning how to use Google!

you know that you are a success when you have snarky commentors….

or better yet, rude ones

Although “there is no such thing as a stupid question,” I believe this one may fit that category – do you have to live in NY to be an intern?

Yeah–we need someone to be in the office!

OH EM GEE…….I am at the office right now, but I will send you guys an e-mail as soon as I can get away from some of this work to compile everything you're asking for.

Now, I know you said that you won't be getting back to everyone's stuff cuz of the sheer volume of responses you'll be getting (which is totally understandable), but I want you to look at my resume and cover letter when I send it in (side note: attention whore, much? Maybe…but isn't that the way to get into the door, a lot of people say?). I'll be actually moving to NYC VERY, VERY shortly, and I think that I have, among my fashion knowledge (which can be and is always, always being expanded), a pretty fun, festive personality that would be a great addition to the office.

Anyway, enough selling myself….gotta run right now and get back to work, but I'll send my info in at around lunch time or so. *grin* YAY!!!!

*shameless self-plug*

Weird- even without lolllove or the internet, I knew most of the answers.

Two questions, though:
1) when do you want your prospective intern to start working, and for how long?
2) Are you willing to consider foreign applicants (i.e. not a citizen or resident of the US? I'd love to apply, and would be willing to move to NY if (I hope) I got it.

Willing to move to NY for the internship? That's dedication!

Still. I'm in New York already…..wink! wink!

This sounds great!

I am not trying to score points by complimenting Britt and Lauren but I feel compelled to say that Fashionista.com is one of the only thoughtful fashion sites on the web. Britt, Lauren, Kate and the other lovely ladies writing for Fashionista go beyond the typical fashion news format and make compelling and inquisitive observations about the fashion industry both nationally and internationally. They also break news (often faster than WWD). And they manage to stay interesting. This is very, very rare. Regardless of whether I get this internship I will continue to read Fashionista and text my mentors at Prabal Gurung whenever Britt or Lauren mention Prabal or his blog or his clothes.

goddamn it I'm halfway there. the other half would be getting older and moving to NY ;)

do i have to live in ny to apply for the job??
