The One Thing Kate Moss Can’t Sell—Herself

Monday, Apr 12, 2010 / 12:31 PM

Les Arts Décoratifs has canceled their Kate Moss exhibition.

The “Kate Moss Myth” was supposed to go up this year, then it was postponed until next March, and now they’re doing away with it altogether.

Despite the fashion world’s love of all things Kate, the non profit museum’s had a hell of a time finding a corporate sponsor for the exhibition.

A spokeswoman told WWD that “Cultural patronage is not a priority for companies,” but given the wide range of companies Kate’s worked for, from Nikon to Chanel, Virgin Mobil to Dior and the heaps of money each and every one has made off of the supermodel, we’re surprised no one’s stepped up to attach their name to the exhibition.

It is, we’ll admit, a bit early to host anything called the “Kate Moss Myth,” or take a look back at her ‘long’ career—she’s only 36–and we wonder what exactly they’d put on display. But when a museum wants to present the entire contents of her closet in 20 years, we bet companies will fight for involvement.

The only appropriate museum to house Kate Moss's clothes is FIT or any costume institution.
The contents of her clothes is not fit for any other museum. I mean a museum's mission statement should be to educate the public with its thought-provoking art or artifacts, not praising a super model.
Kate Moss exhibition goes against museum ethics.

monica. it wasn't to showcase her clothes, it was to present her work as a model and sorry to say an icon. would have been a great show for a lot of photographers.

Of course it's a LONG career. She's modeled for 22 years – her age has nothing to do with it. Not many supermodels model full-time for 2 decades.

Monica: please read up on Les Arts Decoratifs. They put together some of the best fashion exhibitions in the world, which rival those done by the Costume Institute at the MET. It's not just some random museum.

It's Kate Moss. Whether you love/hate her, anyone not understanding the reason why the Les Arts Décoratifs would have an exhibition dedicated to her just doesn't get it. The fact that she is under 40 and has maintained a successful career as a model, is what makes her legendary. The fact that she's not conventionally beautiful and shorter than most models, is ALSO what makes her legendary.

Fashionista FAIL.

Love you guys still.

Kate Moss is already Kate Moss when I was younger! She has always been popular and she has proven herself in the field of fashion modeling. I wish I could see the exhibit!
