Why do you feel the need to defend yourself, Susie? There are nine other bloggers on this list. I could have very well been referring to any one or number of them.

I suspect that you're piping up because you feel at least some wisp of recognition that you have copied. Yes, you know you have in the past, in all sorts of forms: the things you buy, the places you shop at, the subjects you write about, the way you style yourself. There's no doubt that you have done these things in the past. I've been following fashion blogs for 5-6 years now, and I know how they've developed, and when stories and ideas have come out. I also know which blogs you follow (it's not that hard to figure out), and what blogs you have copied from. The patterns are all out there on the Internet.

I give you a lot of credit for being one of the first fashion bloggers and creating much original content, but don't pretend that you have never copied. You have, and you have been directly called out on it before. Please don't put on your innocent act now, like you've never heard of such a thing. Maybe you do it less these days. Maybe you are trying harder to ensure your content if mostly your own BECAUSE you have had your behavior called out to you before. But if the level of admiration, popularity and influence that you've attained now is based on every step that your blog takes and has taken, than it can't be denied that your status is at least partially based on submitting the ideas of others as your own.

No one is saying you can't be inspired by or recreate what other people have done. Everyone does it, and that's how we progress. The point is that you need to credit others. Not selectively credit, like only linking people who are your friends, or bloggers who have minuscule readerships that have no chance of equaling you in popularity. You need to credit everyone. Including, and ESPECIALLY, the front of the bell curve bloggers that you have gotten your ideas from. They deserve the recognition for their efforts, as do you.

For some reason, I can't reply to the comment you left below so I'm doing it here…

CityOfHuntress: Actually, I'm baffled by your comment because I looked through the list of blogs and I don't think any of them are guilty of what you are accusing them of…. taking my blog aside, I meticulously went through the list and they are all wildly different in such a way and some of them are so long-established that I find it difficult to trace them to copying anything…

Going back to what you are accusing me of…
I always credit the people that I source from be it newspapers, blogs or websites…. please do give examples where I have 'copied' and not 'credited'… please, as I would of course like to rectify if this is the case…

I'm pedantic when it comes to these things and on the contrary, I WOULDN'T have piped up if I thought I was in any way guilty of what you are saying – because I am naturally a defensive person and the blog and its credibility is incredibly important to me…. these things matter to me when it means not a jot to others…

I'm also trying to recall what you mean by being “called out” for copying…. WHEN??? I know my own archives pretty well… I have of course been inspired by other bloggers – of course… but i have always cited them as influences in interviews or directly in posts where it is applicable… but I am having trouble in recalling these instances of being “called out”…. am I going maaaad?

As for linking to bloggers – I can post you examples of posting to ALL manner of blogs – front of bell, big, emerging or otherwise…. if that makes any difference?

You forgot Karla's Closet and Cupcakes & Cashmere… Both designed with Coach and probably have way more hits than Hanneli, Joanna etc

ahh i'm still baffled at how powerful those girls are. insanity

I would totally add Le Blog de Betty…….very influential…..even Zara is putting her face on t-shirts. Also I just discovered TRENDSETTERVINTAGE and I am now a follower and believer. You must check her out, GREAT STYLE and GREAT PRICES. Check it out at http://stores.ebay.com/TrendsetterVintage.

*heart* Luxirare!

I just saw this string now, and you should know that Susie has replied below. For some reason, we're unable to reply to your second comment.

Also, I must say that the big problem with your argument is: How can you ever prove that the content was re-appropriated?

1. There's a thing known as changing a time stamp, which I've seen several people do.
2. If a blog is really, really obscure, there's a chance another blogger hasn't even read the post. For instance, we broke the Bliss Lau story. Whether or not it was written by another, more obscure blogger, I have no clue. Nowhere on the Internet can I find anything about Erin Wasson and Bliss Lau before Britt's July 31, 2008 post. If it had been written about previously, we would have linked to the story.
3. I just don't believe that most people are malicious enough to blatantly copy. And definitely not the people on this list. The popularity of bloggers has a lot to do with authenticity. Whether you like them or not, these people are authentic, with lots of original ideas. The bloggers you mentioned–particularly The Glamouri and Luxirare–are sure to rise in popularity as the years go on.

As for why we didn't do a piece about underground bloggers: It's a good idea! But it would be pure opinion. We'd have to approach a story like that in a completely different way.

i agree with the people malicious enough to blatantly copy. some people have complained about it to me, but when i ask for links and proof, they never provide it. i mean, that would make a great story on IFB, in three years, no one has been able to prove they've actually been copied.

that said, there has been some times when another blogger has inadvertently done it. once a blogger used the same title for a series she did that was exactly the same concept i've been doing for years, but she changed the title. i think it was an honest mistake.

i just can't get over the fact that mustaparta means black beard in finnish, it somehow makes her less cool. i know i'm being stupid but it's so random, especially until i found out she has a finnish parent or heritage or something. suddenly i can understand why american celebrities use a stage name.

http://www.FashionIsStupid.com is a great way to find out what NOT to wear!

Why do people have to criticize other people's hard work and what they do? In response to City of Huntress, why do u have to pick on someone and give them a hard time, maybe Susie did forget to credit someone.. we are all human after all.

Susie, we think you are great and in Australia we have this thing called Tall Poppy Syndrome and its because people are just jealous.!

She was also listed as 26 when she had a shot at being a Maxim bikini model a few years back, though she's since removed her profile from it.

My mistake: http://www.maxim.com/girls/hotties/2005/19839/r…

Her age has disappeared from it altogether now, though, for some reason.

Oh dear, no black bloggers made the top ten list

What about FabBlab.blogspot.com? Neon green shoes, oversize sunglasses, the girl is perfection. could work on her pictures a bit more but she's seriously undiscovered. and fashion toast is pretty whatever now. she just wears different variations of the same outfit. totally agree with whomever said she's just dirty hippie in lots of alex wang and erin wasson.

LOVE susie of style bubble though and also heart haneli and emily <3

Karla has hits and misses but largely hits and she's a lovely person. the clothes horse is seriously dull. Also, Betty is tres cute except when she wears those icky black moccasins. But I love that she's much more accessible than most bloggers, wearing a large amount of ASOS and Promod and accessorizing here and there with YSL and Helmut Lang, etc.

I cannot STAND Jane Aldridge. Sure, she has some a little panache for styling but 90% of her fame comes from the amount of money she's given to shell out on a pair of shoes.

Tavi is a freakin goddess.

Kthxbye
