For the beauty-obsessed, news of OPI’s Shrek nail polish collection is probably not new. But despite my penchant for polish colors that pop, I hadn’t heard about it until spying an add in Lucky last night.
A few of the shades, I must admit, are lovely. I’m definitely up for trying the pale blue and lavender, and maybe even the yellow.
But I’m still a bit perplexed as to why OPI teamed up with Shrek. Sure, it’s a popular film series beloved by children and adults alike, but does it really work as a theme for a nail polish brand? To me, it’s kind of like bringing a McDonald’s kiddie meal to the nail salon.

okay sure, it may be a bit strange, but i think it’s fun
i recently bought the lavender shade, and it’s beautiful
plus, when considering OPIs tradition of themed collections with kitschy names, Shrek seems to fit in, no?
what an amazing excuse to make weird colors
Yet another reason why Essie is superior!! No partnerships with animated movies that have seemingly endless numbers of sequels, PLUS it lasts longer, has better colors.
How…strange.
Sex and the City I would understand, but really OPI, Shrek?
HA! It's amusing yet at the same time I kind of love it. I say..”Why Not”? :)
YESS! It is a really odd pairing, but I've actually been dying to try a bright yellow. And I just love O.P.I.
Bit incongruous – who are they aiming this at? I agree with Cosi, they should have jumped on the Sex and the City bandwagon that's rolling down fashion avenue!
Sexy and the city? Really? You could not get a more boring and predictable collaboration if you tried. Let me guess, a red collection to represent the soles of Carrie's loubitons?
I love that OPI has fun with their nailpolish… they already have the most incredible and vast array of colours… why would you bother to make more reds and pinks when you can do something different?
I just posted pictures of this entire collection on my blog. The collection is better than I thought it would have been.
I was given the turquoise color as a gift (I don't think it's pictured above), and it's actually a pretty summery color. I'm planning on giving myself a pedicure with it this weekend.
