1) Why was Samantha dressed like Rihanna?

2) Was the extensive security checkpoint and brawny men with binoculars really necessary at the Coty SJP-NYC screening last night? Neither SJP nor the Sheik of Abu Dhabi were in attendance.

3) Did the producers think that blatant anti-Muslim xenophobia would make for clever humor?

4) Does the color of Miranda’s hair actually exist in nature?

5) Did anyone else think that the moment when Carrie met Big in the Dior newspaper dress was the only sweet part of the movie?

6) Will Patricia Field have a career after this?

7) Did anyone else want to hurl something at the screen during the opening monologue when Carrie is talking about how they came down to earth by buying an equally ostentatious apartment, but that it was 12 floors lower? (Oh, and don’t forget the second apartment they own. Tough economic times for the Bigs).

8) The braless Irish nanny? This is a good plot device?

9) If there is anything more disgusting than watching Samantha have sex, is it watching Samantha have sex during menopause?

10)
Who thought it was possible that a sequel worse than Bridget Jones 2: The Edge of Reason would ever be made?

(Thanks to Steff for her quippy remarks last night and ranting emails this morning.)

I'm really surprised (although maybe not) that the only reviews I'm seeing of the movie are here. Although if it's that bad….maybe not so surprised. So really….don't bother seeing it?

It was cringe-worthy and awful. And I was a huge fan of the show.

Oh there are plenty of reviews of this film. Jezebel has snippets of some of them and they were all bad.

Even Roger Ebert was disgusted by it. I love, love, loved SATC the TV series and the first movie was pretty good too, but this movie was just every cliche you could possibly think of on steroids. And don't even get me started on the blatant condescension toward middle eastern culture through out the film. It was as if they only went there so they could compare themselves to “poor oppressed middle eastern women” and the middle eastern men that oppress them. Almost every joke was centered around this. Ugh! Don't bother seeing it. As a true SATC fan I am saddened and disappointed.

Am I the only one who actually liked it!!!! I LOVED IT!!!

I personally enjoyed it. I think people need to recognize that the movie(s) are simply a love letter to the fans & will never be as good, groundbeaking, or insightful as the tv show. The movies are simply meant to be fun & fluff because honestly after the series, there aren't anymore questions to ask & there really isnt much of a story to tell. Stop expecting it to be something deeper than it is and enjoy it in all its “Girl Power!” cotton candy glory it was meant for. Ligten up folks, its just entertainment :)

kind of agree. i didn't like the anti-muslim “they're backward” vibe i kept getting, and so many of the jokes centered around that, but otherwise i didn't think it was horrible.

and what was so wrong with the styling?

I completely agree- i hated the anti-muslim vibe, and its not excusable. But aside from that, its not like i walked in there expecting a cinematic masterpiece. i expected it to be goofy and fun, and for the most part i got what i expected.

I'm a HUGE fan of SATC (the TV show and first film) and this movie was god-awful embarrassing. The clothes were ridiculous and tacky (where was the sense of wit?), the plotline was a joke—even the jokes were a joke—and I spent the whole movie disgusted, bored or embarrassed for the actresses. I'm not a fan of movie reviewers, but I haven't read one review since seeing the movie last night that I disagree with. This franchise is dead in the water!!

I knew the movie was gonna bad b/c it was over promoted. And the sad part is that after 9/11 and the “discovery of middle eastern women's oppression” the west has been blatantly ignorant towards the muslim world. This movie probably reiterated that point. Glad I'm too broke to see it.

I can't take wait to see SATC2. I could watch it without sound because all I really care about is watching the genius of Patricia Fields on a big screen. I agree with Hmmm, folks need to lighten up. The movie is Rambo for Chicks ;)

girls shut your mouth. Sex and the city will forever be a legend.

I don't think I want to approach the issues of the writing, the editing, the acting or the xenophobic plot lines, so I'll focus on my disappointment with the movies styling. I always have felt that the outfits in the series were so successful because Pat Field relied heavily on vintage, or vintage inspired looks from the 70s and 80s. Later in the series when the clothes became more affluent and modern, they were very high-end and ladylike. I find the character's styling in the films (both) to be incongruous with the series. The look is modern, but younger. The clothes aren't always lacking in hip-ness, but there's a lack of authenticity to see a bunch of stylish 45 year old ladies parading around in tiny jersey frocks. It isn't relatable or endearing and it really fails to take part in the story in the way the clothes always did in the series. The only 2 memorable costume moments in the second film were both unfortunate instances of reviving looks from the series.

I actually liked the movie. I think the message was about sexism across the board, not just attributed to a particular enthicity or religion; let's not forget Miranda's jerk of a boss (American) or the male writer who slammed Carries book and suggested she stop talking.

That should be “Carrie's”

Can we just state for the record that Samantha (not counting any other possible uses of this tired pun) had slept with (at least) three separate men named Richard and cleverly referred to all of them as Dick. Could that joke be any more lame?

I can't believe I'm still thinking about this movie, but it's only because I've been trying to erase it from my head by re-watching the entire series. I must say the cute moment with the Dior newspaper dress has been sort of ruined now that I recall when she wore it in the series. It was in season 3, when she surprises Natasha at lunch and Natasha tells her that she fuct-up her teeth and ruined her marriage with Big or whatever. Could there be a less nostalgic outfit to have chosen to revive?
