Boutique Peek: Shotwell on Grant Ave., San Francisco

I recently took a trip to San Francisco, and what can I say? Holy shopping, Batman! There's good vintage on Haight Street, and thrift shopping in the Mission. And just around the corner from Union Square--the neighborhood that houses high street favorites such as H&M, Zara, Urban Outfitters, etc.--sits Shotwell. Shotwell is a two story, loft-like space with a brilliant mix of cool-kid brands like Elizabeth and James, Cheap Monday, Play by Comme des Garcons, J. Brand, and Jeffrey Campbell, as well as vintage finds that store owners Holly and Michael Weaver have collected from all around.

The couple spends tons of time scouring the country for limited quantity, vintage, and dead-stock items because they really understand the exclusivity game. Shoppers love the feeling of owning something that only a handful of other people have. (It really is awesome, isn’t it?)

Holly and Michael started Shotwell only a few years ago, selling vintage items out of their garage on Shotwell Street (hence the store’s name), eventually setting up little pop-up shops here and there. After gaining enough momentum, the permanent location on Grant Ave. opened.

Once a month, the couple organizes an in-store event with a DJ, drinks and of course, shopping. Most recently, they threw a party debuting new summer stock: Guests were treated with free manicures.

Not heading to SF any time soon? Don't frent: Shotwell sells select items online. Albeit only a soft-launch for now, the fully shop-able site with both mens and women's items will be ready for clicking this coming fall. Until then, be sure to check out their Facebook and Twitter pages, which are constantly being updated with new goodies, as well as news on upcoming events. Shotwell 320 Grant Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94108. 415-399-9898. Open Mon-Sat noon - 8pm, Sun noon - 7pm.
