OK but no joke gladiator sandals are OUT. They came out in summer 2008 and I was like, ok those are really cute. Then 2009 comes around and people are still wearing them so I’m like, ok whatever it’s just a phase. BUT NOOOOO. Because good old 2010 is now coming along and people are STILL wearing them, and then I was just like OK NO! It’s been three years people COME ON!!!!!!!!! I’m just like what???? – Lourdes “Lola” Leon in her first blog post for her mom’s “Material Girl” line for Macy’s.

Yes, I wish I had a rich mother, so I could buy new shoes every season too. I understand that she is young – but I don't really think she is ready for a taste of reality. If you spent a lot of money on an item, and it hasn't worn out, please wear it successively. And if it goes with the length of your dress, the shape of your legs, etc., even more reason to do it.

I thought Zara was selling gladiator sandals in the spring of 2007. Just saying!

What does Lourde's know about fashion? I've never seen her looking remotely attractive.

she needs to get a real job.

I thought the same about ALL THOSE JEANS about 10 years ago… seems they may be here to stay… can't even begin to comment on daughter-o-madonna blogging though….

I hope she doesn't influence this guy's style cuz I dig it…http://quimamme.leiweb.it/e-di-moda/baby-vip/20...

Just because Tavi's a superstar blogger doesn't mean every other 14 year old is entitled to such opinions… Gross.

I actually agree with the tween. Gladiator sandals are so overdone and are unflattering on about 99% of the population. You basically need to have legs like a model to pull them off, and sadly many women just don't (myself included).

So if gladiator sandals and flip-flops/havaianas/whatever are “soooooooooooooooooooo out”… what's left in flat sandals? Birkenstocks? Get real. I'll be damned if I'm wearing sandals with a heel with jean shorts and a t-shirt, so I repeat: What's left?

-Everyone- is entitled to their opinion. Doesn't mean I think Lourdes is a great blogger, doesn't mean you have to read it. She's allowed to have an opinion and her point, as its base, is valid.

point taken. i just find it questionable and annoying that macy's is supporting such drivel.

everything doesn't have to be a trend. Learn some more about fashion. Some styles from the 20's are still used today, nothing is ever new sweetheart.

What does she know about fashion besides the fact that she has the money to buy whatever she wants? She needs to grow up and learn some life experience so she doesn't sound like a spoilt 13 year old with a famous mummy.

Not every tween can have the eloquence of Tavi Gevinson.

you guys are taking someone's opinion way to seriously. i think she's kinda funny and it's just her opinion – if you like gladiator sandals wear them, if you don't, don't wear them. she's 13, i'm sure we were all as equally as annoying with our opinions at that age, myself included.

Teenager's opinions mean nothing to me.

This is why I am so glad that these kinds of social platforms didn't exist when I was thirteen. If my tween-tinged opinions were broadcast to the world I would outcast myself to some cave in embarrassment.

That would be a good thing to do…if only she weren't 13. I'm sure you were worse.

She is clearly just as articulate as her mother…

The only time I'm wearing flip-flops is at the beach. Exposing most of your feet in this city is really fucking gross…just ask this Leah chichttp://www.nydailynews.com/lifestyle/health/200...

I am really glad that I went to residential camp at 14, instead of being used as a tool for vapid consumerism.

Wow, I mean, everyone's entitled to their opinion, but way to win over your target audiences hearts and minds with a condescending first blog post. For MACY'S. Wonder how many results “gladiator sandal” will get you at macys.com?

not quite. not polite to make assumptions.

Haha – love the shout out! It's true. I found out the hard way.

I'm not much older than Lourdes and this makes me cringe. Way to represent our generation, sweetie. I'm liking the caps lock and know-it-all tone. -.-

Her post was humorous, read the whole thing in context. She's only 13. Goodness, everyone's so uptight here.

Well, your comment isn't all that better with the condescending use of “sweetie.”

I have a pair from Topshop s/s 2006 – still wearing (and loving) them Lourdes! Sustainable chic, c'est chic ;)In fairness, she was probably wearing Start-Rite then…

hhhmmm…dislike gladiator sandals, except if they were made in high heels model

Hi, it's called a recession.

Here! Here! A true fashion victim is someone who drops the dollars when the “it” item is in vogue..then can't figure out how to work it when the item is out of vogue. If you bought it own it, work it, and don't be a slave to other folks opinions.
