What CD are you listening to now? Pink Floyd–The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

If you were to get a tattoo right now, what would it be? Ooh, I’ve actually been thinking about this lately. It would say “floating in space,” which is from a Flaming Lips song.

Where would the tattoo be? On my neck.

What is one item of clothing that you always wear? Stockings!

What is your favorite meal? Well, normally it’s fish, but I love these ginger candies! It’s a crazy fetish!

What is your favorite store in NYC? The Salvation Army…I got this blazer for $7!

Nothing says professional like a neck tattoo.

my brother works for a very prestigious company and he has many neck, knuckle and throat tattoos to the point that it has become one uniform art piece. it's dated to consider neck tattoos as less than professional.

She is so beautiful but her outfit is atrocious. I hate when people just throw on vintage and think it's fashionable. I also hate when people wear stockings with everything.

He's in New York, right? Or maybe LA? Try getting hired anywhere but McDonald's around here with visible tattoos.

no thank you. there is a reason that nyc and la are more open minded. people from all walks of life learn to (hopefully) overcome their own prejudices because everyone is forced to confront them head on.

And here I thought New Yorkers mostly got along by ignoring each other. And by agreeing on their unspoken superiority to all other places in the country. (Interesting- there's no option to reply to a reply.)

you are welcome to twist my words.

There was definitely an implication there. But be that as it may, the whole discussion probably doesn't apply to this model anyway- likely she'll end up working in a creative field of some kind where visible body art is pretty much accepted no matter where you are in the country. It's part of the culture. I'm hazarding a guess that your brother works in something like that.

But I think there's a definite line where you just don't see visible tattoos, even in New York. There aren't too many corporate lawyers, investment bankers, or neurosurgeons with knuckle and neck tattoos. It's still not the done thing. That may change, since so many young people have tattoos, but for now I'd still say it'd be a definite factor against getting hired for some jobs.

MaraJade, I grew up in a much smaller town where visible neck tattoos would have come across to me as something that was scary as well.. But what I am trying to tell you is that I found your comment to be insulting and that my brother is a good example of a straight edge gentleman working for a large company. One can be very professional and have neck tattoos. I am not intestered in playing the NYC/LA versus the rest of America game. I think that anyone with an open mind is intellectually superior, wherever they may be. It's about tolerance and acceptance.
Anyhow, any frustration directed at me should be used to protest the fact that WE ARE 48 DAYS INTO THE OIL LEAK/TOXIC DISPERSANT DUMPING and I am scared for hurricane season for those living in the gulf states. anyone in nyc who wants to join me and a friend in demonstrating in strategic places on Friday in NYC, please give me a shout!!!!

I knew a library clerk who had tons of visible tattoos. Of course she was also a former merchant marine.

I love the Salvation Army too – though for things like tables and glass wear. You can get some really nice antiques that stupid kids throw out when their parents die to replace with Ikea crap.

That blazer on her – ug. It makes her look even twice as anorexic then she probably normally looks. All I can think about doing is force feeding her ice cream until she looks like a normal woman rather then an extra in a zombie movie.

I wonder if she talked with her hands more than her mouth like she does so often…

I think Tati is beautiful- it may seem like she is copying Freja if she gets that tattoo though. I wonder if the ginger candies are the Reed's ones that I'm OBSESSED with.

The “makes her look even twice as anorexic then [sic] she probably normally looks” is really unnecessary … You never cease to puzzle me with your comments Jami.
