Whitney is pissed you guys.
1. When Erin and Olivia are meeting with Joe Zee, why can’t Olivia get up and walk two steps to grab a notebook from Joe? We’re glad she refused to move so we could witness a deliciously frosty transaction between Olivia and Erin in which Olivia points at Erin and asks her to fetch the notebook for her in a tone we can only imagine she reserves for wait staff and her cleaning lady.
2. Foreshadowing much? How many times did Kelly Cutrone say “very” as in it would be a “very bad thing” if Roxy doesn’t get Whitney’s line on some random Canadian pop star? 15. We counted.
3. Jian, who produces Canadian pop sensation Lights, is, according to Kelly Cutrone, the “Ryan Seacrest of Canada.” What does that even mean?
4. Why does Prabal Gurung have such a soothing voice? We could listen to him say things like “burnt plastic pallettes” and “laser cut organza” all day in his elegant Nepalese accent.
5. Does Olivia secretly know what she’s doing? We must, begrudgingly, admit that, aside from that scene where her editor has to tell her to take notes, Olivia did her job this episode. The look she pulled from Prabal was a standout during Elle’s Martha Stewart segment, and the blue tuxedo pants really did pop on camera. Props Olivia. Just this time.
6. Didn’t you always wonder what TV show hosts and their celeb guests say to each other right before they start taping? If you’re Robbie Myers, apparently you say to Martha Stewart, “You’re so pretty.” Twice. As if you were trying to win over the cool girl in middle school. Hey, whatever works.
7. Why so sad Derek Lam girl? Despite Erin’s urging that the model in Derek Lam smile and not look so “depressed” during Elle‘s Martha Stewart segment she sulked on stage anyway. Maybe Martha just scares her?
8. When did Whitney decide to grow a pair? Whit’s usually a total pushover next to Roxy but in this episode she’s the aggressor and we liked it. After the Lights jacket debacle Whitney tells Roxy, “Kelly gave you this responsibility and if you can’t pull through you shouldn’t be doing this anymore.” And then later, flippantly, “So then move out.” More of this Whitney please.
9. Martha Stewart in Alexander Wang!? I love that out of all the looks from Elle‘s segment on up and coming designers (which included Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Derek Lam, Prabal Gurung, and Joseph Altuzarra) – Martha wants the Alexander Wang varsity jacket for her own closet. Amazing. We can see it now, Martha Stewart and Erin Wasson, BFF.
10. Where was Kelly Cutrone in this episode? Even though Whitney really stepped up her game, it wasn’t enough to make up for Kelly’s limited air time. We did enjoy watching the bemused look on her face as she watched Whitney and Roxy hash out their strategy to put Lights in Whitney Eve, like she knew it would be a disaster from the start. She’s like some fashion soothsayer.

This show is getting to be good. Olivia is a total show pony, what exactly did she do that was so great. She pulled a good look that most people could have easily done. It was Erin who booked the segment and spent a great amount of time putting it together. ugh that Robbie Meyer chick is something else, total ass kisser much like Joe Zee. Whitney needs to understand that she created a line for herself and not everyone wants to dress like her. Obviously, Lights didn't want to and there's nothing Roxy could have done. I cannot wait for next week. Finally, Roxy is getting some much needed screentime.
hmm… excuse me. Jian WHO? No one (ok maybe we won't generalize, just as we hope Americans don't think that everyone in Canada is related) in Canada has ever heard of Jian. Really, he's not that big of a deal – certainly not a “Ryan Seacret of Canada”. Thanks Kelly.
I think Whitney's attitude toward Roxy would have been alot more useful if she used it when Roxy embarassed her in front of the Bergdorf's buyers with her 'wearing black in L.A. comment.
That just made my night. Thank you very much.
Love from London x
I am from Canada, I love Canada. I have never heard of “Lights” or “Jian”, but I can assure you that neither are a very big deal. Even in Canada.
This is really cool :) follow me on my blog http://vannoybfashion.onsugar.com
Jian is on CBC, and has a popular program where he interviews various artists. A lot of cultured Canadians have heard of him.
Montreal?
Halifax! Montreal come September.
Thank you Canadians for weighing in on this one!
exactly! I heard Kelly Cutrone on his show a few weeks back.
10am every morn, CBC 1, 10pm repeat, it's national. they had Lights @ Starbucks. bit too girl for me but just cuz you no know…
Happy CANADA Day!
I don't think that Jian would want to be referred to as the Ryan Seacrest of Canada. Sorry Kelly and sorry Ryan Seacrest! Lights won a bunch of Juno awards (Canadian Grammy's) and she is on the radio all the time. Despite this, she isn't my cup of tea but good for her for getting press on The City.
Love, a Canadian.
i've lost my Nepalese accent. who knew Nepalese accent would be considered elegant
i kinda think of ben mulroney as the ryan seacrest of canada and jian gomeshi is probably too intellectual for that, he is on cbc
I don't really like the singer “lights” but they play her songs pretty much every hour on muchmusic and the radio…its that whole must play 40% canadian content rule for cdn broadcasters….so for you to have not heard of her says more about you than about her or jian…
Really only that I don't watch MuchMusic. Certainly more than 40% of the music I do listen to is Canadian. There's a ton of amazing Canadian music but nobody has ever told me that Lights is something I should consider. As you said yourself they only play Canadian pop music because of that 40% rule. True fact: Canadian Pop is the worst of all pop music, coming in last after Swedish, British, Australian and American.
I was personally disgusted by Whitney's attitude to Roxy. Roxy tried her damnedest to get Lights into Whitney's stuff, but Lights wasn't comfortable. You can't make her wear what she doesn't want to. But it was definitely in poor taste for Lights to just throw Whitney's jacket on the ground. Roxy's been helping Whitney pimp this collection from the get-go, and for her to tell Roxy she wasn't doing her job was pretty much beyond me.
