I'm 22 and I've had botox. my forehead wrinkles are already quote bad; i've had multiple opinions. Kate basically said everything I planned on writing – if I start now, the wrinkles will never get really severe. It's preventative, not corrective. I don't sun myself or anything. it's all genetics. it sucks. and botox makes me feel 100000% better about myself. that alone makes it worth it. having confidence when i go out and not feeling the need to look in a mirror every eleven seconds…i can't really put a (moral or monetary) price on that.

I'm sorry, but no one needs Botox! I don't care how old you are!!!! You should be happy with the appearance God gave you! I mean, seriously!!! What has our world come to that girl's as young as 13 think they nedd Botox or plastic surgery!?!?!

Asian people idealize paleness not because they find Caucasians more beautiful, but because it was a status symbol. Those who were rich enough to not have to labor outside in fields and the like were perceived as prettier.

problem is the limited knowledge of people about botox. most only associate it with smoothing out wrinkles on old women. what many do not know is that botox also has uses other than ironing out aging skin.

I thought when I read "cosmetic procedures", i initially thought charice had a nose lift or face lift or some surgery.

Big letdown.

She just had botox for muscle pain and have the benefit of a narrower jaw at the same time. She didn't even get injected in other parts of the face, only in her jaw. Call this a controversy? Doesn't even connect to the conflict about botox and charice's age if you think about how she had it and why she had it.

And even if she did have it just to have a narrower face, then people should know that the doctor did it for corrective purposes. She had a bulge in both sides of her jaw because of her condition. Having that bulge is not natural, don't you think? it was caused by a condition. to correct the bulge and bring back the original contour of her jawline before the bulge appeared seems pretty fine to me and shouldn't be a moral issue at all.

@Bongenre: I can see where you could see Rashomon's point. And I can see how many caucasians would think that way. But the point is many asian beauty standards have their own origins and are not always in response to the western ideas of beauty. In fact they often take on a mind of their own. Non asians usually do not take the time to bother to understand this, or they believe everything they read in a few magazine articles (which always state the want-to-look-like-a-white-girl reference) and consider themselves an expert on the subject.

Part of the problem is the hostility with the way Rashomon's point was given, as well as the final words about the color contacts. As if asians are more vain than any other race. As if his/her judgmental, ignorant, and self centered comments are any better. Adapting and looking a certain way for success is seen all over the world in different ways, and having success does not always mean looking like a whitey. I don't care if you are opposed to altering your body from what you were born with Rashomon. What someone else does with their body is none of your business, and what you do with yours is none of ours.

I think they meant that it's less detectable in pictures because everything is frozen in the moment. However, when you encounter a heavily botoxed person in real life (I have), their face remains frozen in the moment.. and that isn't cute. Especially when they try to compensate by smiling so wide and opening their eyes as if to say “Look at my face! it can move still!”

I can see where Rashomon was coming from with the base idea that these surgeries are designed to add a caucasian look to the face. However, I think it's flagrantly racist to say without any statistics that Asian women have some mania for cosmetic surgery that is not shared by the rest of the world, or that it's a societal flaw because it's perceived that they're trying to look more caucasian.
I just have to say it, because I'm balking that nobody else seems offended by the statement “Asians are so fucking vain”.
