Who Wore it Better: Tavi VS Kiki, or, Tavi Just Grows Into This Miu Miu Dress

Kirsten Dunst and Tavi Gevinson both gave the Rodarte a break for this dress from Miu Miu‘s Spring 2010 collection. Kirsten made our best dressed the other week in this number. Miu Miu also loaned Tavi the dress, seen here in one of her many self-shot photo series. We think Tavi could easily be Kirsten in ten years, in the same dress, with a slightly more grown out version of the same haircut. We prefer the length on Kirsten (because the dress actually fits her) and the way she makes it look like it’s been in her closet for years, but Tavi looks pretty cute, too. Who do you think wore it better?

Kirsten Dunst owns the look, while Tavi looks styled and over-worked, imho.

the 2 are style very different and the body too, but the Tavi style is more extrovert that Kirsten, and the use of black socks is a good point for her.

For one thing, Kirsten has breasts that fill it out…sorry Tavi, but that dress isn't meant for a little kiddie! I personally don't like the black socks because they're too overpowering for the dress. There is already a lot going on with the dress alone, so it looks better with simple shoes like Kirsten's flats.

Kristen. I love how she's able to make that dress look so casual and understated.
Honestly they both look good. The picture of Tavi blew me away when I originally saw it, while Kirsten isn't quite as noticeable in it (except we all know it's Miu Miu). They're different and equally good in it.
And I don't think Tavi will be Kirsten in 10 years…I think she'll be a much more controlled Courtney Love on her way to being Anna Della Russo.
On the other hand, this is the best Kirsten has looked publicly in YEARS.
I don't think its fair to pit a grown woman against a kid who's more or less playing dress-up (an extremely eloquent and stylish kid doing a designer photoshoot, but a kid playing dress-up nonetheless).
Clearly the dress fits Kirsten better, but I appreciate the creative and youthful way Tavi has styled herself.
Tavi looks awful, just awful.

Everyone is just saying Kirsten Dunst because they like her movies. Kirsten Dunst's breasts are pulling the thing way too tight, it's more ruffle-y on Tavi. Further more, Tavi's rocking the black socks and red rouge thing. The purse, flats, and sunglasses are bringing the MiuMiu down to the demode.
I think this is really inappropriate. Fashion's not a contest, and it's especially cruel for you to put a kid (amazing though she is) into the mix. Shame on you.
Uhm… Kirsten wins because of boobs. I'm all about actual breasts in dresses. Don't see em enough in spreads anymore. (ew, little boy models)

Tavi, for sure. It's too tight on Miss Dunst and Tavi captures the Rodarte spirit w/her socks and shoes.
Well it obviously looks great on kirsten – it was made for an adult body. But Tavi kind of pulls it off in that cute school girl kind of way.
They both look great in thier own way. It looks like Tavi stole her older sister's dress and made it age appropriate while Kristen looks like the cool older sister she stole it from.
Kirsten looks SO much better hands down.
Both are great, because the way they used fitted very well. Tavi as a little Lolita and Kirsten having a kidult time.

I liked Tavi's letter to Seventeen too – she complained that beauty is held up by this magazine as the ultimate achievement, ahead of health and everything else, and that teenage girls have enough to contend with and don't need teen-oriented magazines increasing the pressures on them. In that spirit, I would have to say that Tavi makes this distinctive dress her own. I see her more as a future Anna Piaggi rather than a Kirsten Dunst.
I'm a little creeped out by commenters saying this is “too tight” on Kirsten Dunst. What this is is a dress that fits an actual female body, not an Alexander Wang t-shirt three sizes too big on an emaciated 15-year-old.
Kirsten wore it better. The dress is self-sophisticated so any other accessories are not needed. Socks are good but they make the look a bit heavy.
