Adventures In Copyright: Material Girl? More Like Stolen Material
By Emily Bihl
This one is so close I had trouble telling which image was which for a good ten minutes. One clever tipster, upon seeing a piece from Madonna’s new line for Macy’s, pointed out that the “Material Girl” line blatantly rips off a design from Ronny Kobo‘s work for Torn.
I mean, it’s identical–the pattern, the cut of the top, and even the arrangement of the embellishments. There’s nothing “Borderline” about it– Madonna’s been a “Bad Girl.” What’s your take?

I thought the entire line looked like it copies of stuff that has already been out everywhere for the last few months.
Cool & look nice
I believe there’s a website out there that documents the number of lawsuits filed against Madonna, Inc. for copyright infringement of songs. I guess she’s not stopping at clothing either.
wow identical!
for such a hyped collab its sad they did not even bother to rework at least a few details, maybe changing color and pattern size among other things was too much of a hasle?

um maybe the company bought it from the same manufacturer that produced that print. you guys need to learn some business of fashion.
How, then, do you explain the cut and the embellishments?
Perhaps but it doesn’t change the fact that it is still a low move to make.
Copyright violation is a common problem in celebrity “designed”/styled lines, so while it is disappointing to see that Macy’s was not vigilant in preventing this rip off, it couldn’t be thought of as unexpected.
Hilarious! Especially since her model Taylor Momsen wassnapped in the Torn dress version back in July 2009.
That’s interesting, I’ll like to find that site. Proves once again that few things associated with Madonna are original.
i don’t know if madonna is to blame as much as Macy’s is.
Everything on junior floor at Macy’s is a copy of something..The “designers” shop in europe or other high end stores and knock it off for cheaper. This is commonplace and trust me Madonna nor Lourdes are “designing” anything.
