MELBOURNE–Sportsgirl, the darling of the Australian high street, has teamed up with yet another amazing Aussie talent as part of their ongoing “Sportsgirls Like” campaign. This time round the designer is Konstantina Mittas, famous for her fierce tailoring and avant-garde designs. For her Sportsgirl debut, Mittas has produced a stunning selection of seven very feminine pieces just in time for Australia’s spring.
Dubbed “Flight of the Stone Angel,” the collection takes Mittas’ signature theatrical tailoring and adds an ever so slight gothic-rock twist. Expect to see lots of black, white and a touch of baby pink, coupled with metallic finishes and exaggerated silhouettes.
The inspiration for the collection was the idea of a set of angelic stone statues being set free (and starting a rock band no less), which when you actually look at the pieces isn’t as crazy as it sounds.
“By alluding to the angelic figures set in stone, the collection plays homage to the romantic idea of coming alive and being set free”, says the designer. “The ‘stone angels’ would make a great girl band of aristocratic socialite rebels!”
The surprisingly easy-to-wear collection is available in store and online–shop.sportsgirl.com.au–from September 12. Expect to pay AUD $150 – $250 (USD $137 – $228) to snare yourself one of these very covetable pieces. And yes, they ship internationally.
