Sneak Peek: Atelier Swarovski’s New Jewelry Collections, Designed by Prabal Gurung, Joseph Altuzarra, and More
By Lauren Sherman
PARIS–Are you obsessed Prabal Gurung‘s Spring 2011 collection, but dream of some sparkle to accompany that form fitting cocktail dress?
Never fear. It’s Atelier Swarovski to the rescue. The crystal brand has commissioned five up-and-coming designers to create one-off jewelry collections for Spring 2011. The roster includes Mark Fast, Joseph Altuzarra, the aforementioned Gurung, LA-based costume designer Michael Kaplan, and jeweler Jenny Manik Mercian.
I got to check them out in person at Colette on Wednesday, where Swarovski held a blogger breakfast. The fresh-squeezed orange juice and mini bran muffins were good, but the baubles were better. Mr. Altuzarra himself was on hand to walk us through his vast collection of jewelry–he used Lucite settings for the crystals. The crystals, by the way, all have very specific names, which are less-inspired by texture and more by color. I really loved Altuzarra’s pieces that incorporated the Opal (a foggy white) and Aurora Borealis (rainbow) crystals.
The pieces won’t be available in stores for a few months, so click through to see what you want to place an order for now.

any idea on retails? love the altuzarra pieces
I’m a bit diasappointed by these pieces. Apart from Prabal’s interlocking bangles, there is nothing that really excites.
