The Sunday Styles profile of Alexa Chung didn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know. Well, except for two things:
1. She doesn’t employ a stylist. (But we’ve heard that she uses Susan Joy for big events, so we’re not convinced. Although she does have a better argument than Blake.)
2. She’s got a new television show coming out.
Thrift America will air on PBS next summer. Created by Style.com special projects editor Maya Singer, the premise takes Chung and Singer across the country, where they troll for treasures at estate sales, consignment shops and other second-hand havens. The first episode will takes place during London Fashion Week, where Chung and Singer helped Pamela Love set up a pop-up shop at Browns Focus. (Some of you surely attended the event–maybe you’ll be in one of the scenes.)
We think Thrift America shows plenty of promise. The great thing about airing on PBS is that Singer will be able to maintain creative control. And Chung will reach an audience that may have dismissed her as a low-brow entertainer. (Aka older, wealthy women who could care less about MTV and the Arctic Monkeys.)

She’s part Chinese like me so I’m game on rocking out her fame….All jokes aside, she dresses great, has good taste and comes across with grace and etiquette. That’s worth paying attention too.
Just love the whole program format. There’s a whole world of vintage lovers and the clothes and the people who love them are fascinating subjects.
much much better argument than Blake Lively. They shouldn’t even be put together in the same discussion!

Alexa is very much her own person when it comes to style – but although i like some of her outfits (the one above is great) she is over – rated.

I also didn’t know that if you’re not from New York, you don’t know who Chung is:
“Millard Drexler, chairman and chief executive of J. Crew, told investors on an earnings call that women were curious about Ms. Chung: “Especially the 20-something crowd — they are Googling her all the time.” (He also said he suspected that outside of New York, most people had probably never heard of Ms. Chung.)”
Such an annoying quote. Millard Drexler, meet the internet.
Really? She’s only been around since at least 2006.
I hope by outside New York, he doesn’t mean London.
Obviously he’s wrong by saying that outside NY people don’t know who she is, but maybe he meant it more of a euphemism, because I would say that outside of avid MTV viewers (I personally do not know anyone who fits this category, including my three teenage siblings) her only fanbase is in the fashion scene. He seems to be using “New Yorker” and “person who is informed about fashion” synonymously. I would definitely say that the vast majority of J.Crew’s customer wouldn’t know exactly who she is.
It’s ironic that you say the J.Crew customer wouldn’t know who she is because Jenna Lyons is trying to style every Crew girl to look exactly like Alexa. The military, pushed-up sleeve, high/low aesthetic has been championed by Alexa way before J.Crew 2.0

That may be true (even though I know a ton of girls who dress that way independent of JCrew or Alexa) but the J.Crew customer, by and large, is not informed about fashion celebrities, even though more people than ever before are nowadays with sites like Fashionista (and many more.) I don’t think it’s any kind of a stretch to say that Alexa isn’t very well known outside of people who follow fashion.

Sounds like a fun show, I’ll check it out.
In love with her effortless look! We’ll be watching to get inspiration for new designs with our vintage components at Laura James Jewelry.
alexa seems like a cool chic no doubt…but this site and many others have made her into an icon without merit. she is often dressed quite badly, has poor posture and has two distinct styles- llittle boy or little girl, that I find quite boring. I was at an event with her once and was shocked that she looked so frumpy. She had wrinkled clothes, messy, greasy hair, and a frock that looked like it belonged in a Monty Python movie. I love her carefree attitude- but she shouldn;t be put on a pedastal. Girls should see in her is an inspiration to find their own style, not the inspiration to copy her. Perhaps this show will do that- or not.
