Google Gets Into Fashion With Boutiques.com, Brings on SJP for the Launch

It seems that Project G-Style wasn't just an intern's dream after all. Google will launch its very own "create-your-own" boutique channel on Wednesday called Boutiques.com, reports WWD. The site, currently password protected, is the result of Google's acquisition of Like.com last August. So we should have seen this coming, since Like.com and its adjoining properties are all related to online shopping.

Consumer boutiques are a big trend in e-commerce right now. We also think they happen to be a very smart idea. Much like RevolveClothing.com's new boutique program, shoppers on Boutique.com will be able to create their very own online store. (Whether or not shop "owners" will receive a commission, as they do on Revolve in the form of store credit, is unclear.)

And just as Revolve has Rumi Neely and Nicole Richie creating their very own boutiques, Google has Sarah Jessica Parker setting up shop. (And Katie Holmes might be on board, too.)

Brands rumored to be involved in the launch include Oscar de la Renta and Tory Burch. More to come on Wednesday--we'll keep you posted.
