If Tyra Only Knew What Smize Really Means

Monday, Nov 8, 2010 / 12:14 PM

Tyra Banks is known for her Tyra-isms. Throughout 15 cycles of American’s Next Top Model she’s brought many new words and wonky phrases into the pop culture lexicon. She’s behind “fierce” (and all it’s incarnations, including “fierceness”), which became so played out we called for a moratorium on the word. But the neologism Tyra is most known for, of course, is “smize.” Even if you don’t watch ANTM, you probably have heard of the “smize” and know that it means smiling with your eyes.

But apparently “smize” means something else. Something we don’t think Tyra would like. According to Urban Dictionary, smize also means, “The condition of having ejaculate in one’s eye, which stings like the dickens.” Want to hear it used in a sentence? We’ll tell you anyway. “That girl will never see me again. Last night I smized her.” OK!

It’s unclear which smize came first–the one where you smile with your eyes or the one where you get cum in your eyes–but, either way, it makes ANTM a little funnier/dirtier.

Well, since you are going to pull out the old Urban dictionary. Then that can be said about may words or phrases. According to the Isley Brothers and R. Kelly Keeping it on the down low used to mean keeping it hush hush. Not the meaning has change in the afro-American community to mean to keep one’s bi-sexuality hush hush. I will use it in a sentence…. That Jenken’s boy is on the down low. They caught him messin’ around with that Tay-Tay with the lazy eye. And here is an even funnier coquneky-dink… Tyra was in that video, Keep it on the down low. I have to say I have never been shot in the eye with that stuff. But I can imagine if I ever did I would give my man a sort of fierce no you didn’t but glamourous look. So maybe she is using the word correctly. Just in a fashion way.
Just a quick thought from me, Miss Michelle who loves fashion, NYC, red lipstick, heels, large bags and fierceness Darhllllling.

really? really though? am I really reading this on fashionista?

SERIOUSLY! I had the same thought.

And really, can’t a word mean more than one thing– especially if it’s a made-up, stupid word that no one really uses in everyday conversation? I mean, I can’t imagine myself having a conversation and tossing the word “smize”– using either meaning– into the mix. Blech.

I don’t think Tyra is the kind of woman who would let smize happen to her so she would be clueless to the other definition.

Although, she would be more agreeable to pearl necklaces.

Are you serious?! That shit looks so real! disgusting and genius.

And I’m blown away by those ants carrying the ring, if National Geographic hired Martin Margiela…

LOL! I’m sure Tyra knew exactly what smize meant and was laughing about it backstage! What next, is dreckitude something dirty?

If you can combine the two, you’re definitely a top model.

I can’t believe you said cum on Fashionista! yuck!

And you thought we needed to know this…. why??? TYRA…STILL BIGGER THAN you people!!!!

I thought this website was a bit more PC.

i love posts like this. there is nothing wrong with some humor and fashion.

EGG-ZACK-LEE.

Besides, Karl Lagerfeld says muuuuuuuch worse!!!!!!

I have to admit I TALK like this post in real life but even over at my blog I try to keep things relatively clean. This is my first time seeing something so sexual and frank on Fashionista! Kudos, you dirty cum shouting hoochies!

we all need to keep up the facade…

who cares… tyra is fabulous.

Fivehead probably means something dirty too but Tyra’s still rocking it in that first pic.

it’s the difference between smīze (with a long “I”) & smĭze (with a short “I”). homographs are hard.

oh! side note – the past tense of smize would be “smized” in the tyra sense and “smizzed” in the urban dictionary sense. you know… like jizzed.

LMBO!

The first time I heard Fierce used in the way Tyra does was in the late 80s, by the fabulous vogue-ing queens who hung out on the pier near Christopher street. Tyra no more behind it than Madonna is vogue-ing. They just brought it to the masses.

This passes for an article? You realize that the Urban Dictionary can be added to by anyone. In any case, I think Tyra is known more for saying “fierce” than “smize.” Also, Tyra did not invent this common usage of the word “fierce,” perhaps you might say she repopularized it. As for the Urban Dictionary’s definition of “smize,” I call bullshit.

Don’t Believe Everything You Read…

Omgsh!!! I’mma rant on this!
I’m sry, but what’s with that title “If Tyra Only Knew What Smize Really Means”…they’re tryin to make it sound like that nasty definition was the original, when it isn’t….
…This article is so stupid. That nastier def. of “smize” came out in 2009, 9 yrs after antm….so I bet, some nasties just decided to taint the innocent meaning of “smize” by attaching it to their vulgar actions. Some people are just pervs…
Furthermore, the article is basically promoting & helping tht definition to spread by writing an article on it…

Girl, how young are you? And how under-exposed? Tyra is behind “fierce”? On what planet?

Urgh. I really think they need bettier subs on that site. Or maybe Tyra should JFGI before she uses new slang.
