Last Night’s Parties: Happy (Cool) Hunting at Gap, and the Scene at Bergdorf’s Is Total Poppycock

Believe it or not, Lanvin for H&M’s launch wasn’t the only event taking our fair city by storm last night—throughout midtown, holiday-themed fetes abounded. We kicked things off at Gap’s Fifth Avenue flagship store for the grand opening of their Cool Hunting pop-up shop. Gap’s steadily been growing their digital and multimedia savvy over the past few seasons, recently tapping bloggers like Susie Bubble and Foursquare founders Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai for their new holiday ads. They even shot a handful of wintry campaign videos, now up on Gap’s YouTube and Facebook pages, that trigger a $1 charity donation each time a fan “likes” them. The decision to launch a mini-boutique curated by Cool Hunting’s online editors, then, seemed like a natural next step.

As for the Gap-approved goods themselves, we were particularly drawn to AMH Design’s DIY needlepoint iPhone slipcases and a tempting vitrine of jewelry from Jill Platner. Those on more super-slim budgets will also fare well—BAGGU’s colorful leopard-print totes ring in at just $8 a pop. With everything from kitschy trophies to Mark Bittman cookbooks to hanging terrariums lining the wooden-plank walls, it felt like we were browsing for unique finds in our coolest cousin’s memorabilia-stocked basement. Although we doubt said cousin would have a never-ending supply of brownies from Fat Witch Bakery and tasty sliders from The Meatball Shop…

Later that night, we swung by Bergdorf Goodman to check out the iconic department store’s stunning new holiday window displays. Inside on the main floor, a decidedly uptown crowd celebrated this season’s astrology-themed masterpieces with champagne and thimble-sized cupcakes. Meanwhile, surrounded by gorgeous Goyard and glistening Van Cleef goods, BG’s Senior Vice President Linda Fargo and display designer David Hoey-signed copies of their new Assouline tome, Windows at Bergdorf Goodman. Once fabulously glam-boyant opera performer Prince Poppycock took the stage, however, all bets were off. Sipping champagne through a crazy straw and decked out in full baroque garb, the America’s Got Talent favorite treated spellbound fans to a few tunes. Among those who popped by? Designers Philip Crangi, Francisco Costa, and none other than Alber Elbaz himself. We guess despite his crazy-busy night, the allure of a little song-and-dance was just too good for the Lanvin designer to pass up.
