I want to be a Thom Browne girl: Surprise?! As far as we know, this is the first look at Thom Browne’s upcoming line for women. It of course it’s amazing. {Jak & Jil}

Google’s Trend Tracker: You can now track consumer interest in trends or brands on Google. The company, which has become increasingly fashion-conscious, demonstrates in their retail advertising blog how search queries can be traced and graphed over time and based on location. For example, most fashion trend-related searches grow in places like New York and Los Angeles and then spread throughout the rest of the country. Pretty cool. {Google via Blackbook}

Just two weeks ago, Nanette Lepore held another rally to save the garment district. For decades, the garment district has been shrinking and struggling to survive as production goes overseas. Today brings word that Bloomberg might just save it. The Mayor’s office rolled out six new initiatives to grow the city’s fashion industry and ensure its place as a fashion capital.

“New York City is the fashion capital of the world, and the factors that drive that success-–the creativity and expertise of our talented workforce–-present us with competitive advantages we want to capitalize on,” said Mayor Bloomberg in a release. “Industry leaders like Diane von Furstenberg, Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren and others helped us develop these seven initiatives to nurture the next generation of fashion talent in New York City and to help make it easier for fashion entrepreneurs to make turn their ideas into reality.”

For the past year, FashionNYC2020, a city-funded initiative chaired by LF CEO Richard Darling, Diane von Furstenberg, Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren, Theory CEO Andrew Rosen, and Gilt Groupe CEO Kevin Ryan, examined the challenges facing the $55 billion industry. With the help of fancy consulting firm Bain & Company, the New York City Economic Development Corporation conducted surveys and interviews with more than 500 industry professionals to determine the best strategies to develop and keep new talent in NYC. Unsurprisingly, FashionNYC2020 “identified New York City’s fashion industry as a potential area of growth over the next decade.”

As per the release, here are the six strategies the city has come up with to grow the fashion industry in NYC:

Update 1: A Conde Nast rep vehemently denies this. We’re waiting for an official statement.

Down to running just two properties, Conde Nast Digital’s editorial director Jamie Pallot is leaving the company, according to sources.

At one point Pallot was responsible for Men.style.com, Style.com, Epicurious.com, and Concierge.com. Now that Men.Style.com doesn’t exist and Style.com is moving to Fairchild, there’s only Epicurious and Concierge left. And who knows what’s in store for those two properties, given the fact that Bon Appetit is getting a revamp with new editor Adam Rapaport and Conde Nast Traveler is paying more and more attention to the web.

It’s quite obvious that Conde Nast Digital, as a separate entity, is being dissolved.

Happy Lanvin for H&M Day! American press previews the H&M for Lanvin collaboration later today, but the UK has already seen the hotly anticipated collection and Vogue.com UK posted the whole shebang. It’s every bit as good as you hoped it would be, so we’ve posted the the entire women’s line. The dresses–especially the floral prints and one-shoulders–voluminous short skirts, and pointy-toed heels (especially the red patent leather ones with the ribbons at the ankles)–are some of our favorites.

We expect sleeping bags for blocks around H&M’s across the US as November 20 approaches. Will you be in line? What are you dying to get your hands on?

Last year, I bought a lovely and warm quilted parka from Uniqlo. And I only wore it once.

Why? Because it was ugly. Unless you’re someone like Sally Singer–who can pull off a floor length version with aplomb–or you’ve scored one of Norma Kamali‘s classic sleeping bag coats, quilted parkas are a bit hopeless. At least when it comes to looking “put together.”

Enter the military anorak. Guys have been wearing these pumped-up versions of your fall army jacket for seasons upon seasons, but this is the first year that I’ve found several warm styles for women.

I’m going with Relwen‘s version–it’s really, truly warm and won’t break the bank at $500. (Yves Salomon‘s version will, but it’s is an investment piece. As in, you’re investing in your health by keeping warm this winter!)

Click through for this season’s top anoraks.

Taylor Swift is following in the footsteps of pretty much every celebrity ever and launching her own fragrance. The wise-beyond-her-years (?) singer just inked a deal with Elizabeth Arden to develop her own unique scent, set to appear on shelves next fall.

I’m assuming the fragrance will be quite sophisticated, since Taylor likes dating older men and all….

Okay, not really. That was a joke. I’m expecting it to smell bad. Really, really bad. But let’s not give up hope just yet.

There are a few celebrity scents I actually like. (A snap poll of my friends–inside and outside of fashion–suggests that I may be the only person on earth willing to admit this.)

Celebrity fragrances that I not only can stomach, but wouldn’t mind wearing:
