Geren Lockhart Takes on London's Food and Art Scenes

Designer Geren Lockhart, of Geren Ford fame, is traveling up a storm this autumn, and she's decided to tell Fashionista readers all. This installment of "Travels with Geren" takes us to London. When/Where: London November 22–26, 2010 Why: Outside of Los Angeles and NYC, I have more friends in London than anywhere else, and the art is the best on the planet right now. I saw more art in the days that I was there than I have collectively all year long: in small galleries, some of the best museums, and in the street. It’s sort of overwhelming how amazing it is. Best Meal: I was extremely lucky in London, each meal was the best because I got to sit down with friends I haven’t seen in forever.... Here’s a list of the great restaurants I visited while in London. From fancy to local, each meal was divine!

Why: Outside of Los Angeles and NYC, I have more friends in London than anywhere else, and the art is the best on the planet right now.

  • Lahore Kebab House
  • High Road House
  • The Wolseley
  • Andrew Edmonds (this one gets ****)
  • Maison Bertaux for tea (this was an unexpected and unscheduled surprise and I’ll go back every visit to London from now on)
  • The Connaught for cocktails

The list is like an encyclopedia for British food--they’re all amazing!

Most Interesting Discovery: A needlepoint pillow at the Tate Modern that was made through a program with prisoners in the UK.

What did you buy? Stacks and stacks of stuff at the Tate Museum and House of Voltaire shops. All artist collaborations. From tea towels, to note cards, a backpack and of course some lovely artist-designed gifts for that lucky little boy named Max. I have to admit that one of his gifts was so good that I got myself one as well.
