Think your fashion photography is any good? Well, powerHouse Books is seeking submissions for an upcoming book featuring under-the-radar photogs. The book’s purpose is to expose lesser-known photographers and models–a risk few publishers are willing to take.

powerHouse Books is asking for photographers to submit the strongest shots of their favorite muses, whether it be a model or a girlfriend. Black and white, color, or film–it doesn’t matter –as long as the photograph and the fashion and beauty elements are of equal importance.

Acquisitions editor, Wes Del Val, along with other notable guest editors, will be selecting the photos showcased in the book.

This morning, at the ungodly hour of 7:30, the 8th Annual “WWD Beauty Biz Awards” took place at the Four Seasons Restaurant in NYC. Being consummate beauty professionals, everyone in attendance looked refreshed and chic, with lots of Chanel bags and perfectly applied lipstick.

Gina Sanders, the president and CEO of Fairchild Fashion Group, started off the presentation by dishing about changes coming to WWD and Style.com (now owned by Fairchild, of course).

WWD is getting an overall architecture redesign in 2011, and an eight page section called “WWD Style” will be introduced; it will provide deeper “business insight, analysis, and fun.” The men’s coverage will be increased, with new beefier quarterly sections and more weekly coverage. The Beauty Biz insert will also be overhauled. And finally, an iPad application is coming.

Gina was more vague about Style.com– “Like ladies having work done, we don’t want to reveal too much,” she said–but big changes are clearly afoot. She mentioned the potential to reach millions of fanatic fashion and beauty consumers through the site. We will be watching closely.

Now onto the awards.

Baptiste Giabiconi, better known as Karl Lagerfeld‘s muse, has been working on a music career for some time. Giabiconi’s single “Showtime” dropped in October and today Christmas came early (or we got a late Hannukah pressie) with the release of his first music video. Giabiconi is that rare pop star whose accent doesn’t disappear when he sings, but the best part is around one minute in where the song stops for some dramatic dialogue and Giabiconi yells, “Whass wrong wees you, man!?”

Are you a six-year-old with a flair for fashion and do you also own an iPad? (Read: Are you Suri Cruise?) Well then Gucci Playground is the app for you.

Brought to you buy the folks who created the $225 3-D movie glasses, Gucci Playground, which launched today, is the brand’s first app, WWD is reporting. Aimed at their youngest customers, it features Gucci’s newly launched children’s line and lets users dress up multi-culti “paper dolls” in the collection and put finishing touches, like wallpaper and color, on their looks with the brush of a chubby toddler index finger.

It’s like really expensive finger painting without the mess! Maybe that’s why socialite moms Emily Mortimer, Vogue’s Filipa Fino, Celerie Kemble and Stephanie Wolkoff (with their kids in tow) are set to fete the new app at Gucci’s flagship store on Fifth Ave. later this afternoon.

And if you haven’t checked out Gucci’s kid’s line yet, it’s worth a look, if only to gawk at their child models who are styled like adults. Take a look.

We guessed right!

Back in June when it was announced that Black Swan star Natalie Portman would front a Dior perfume, we figured it would be Miss Dior Cherie, beloved by ingenues the world over.

And yes, Portman is starring in the Sofia Coppola commercial and Tim Walker-shot ads, which hit televisions/magazines this March.

We can’t wait, although we’ll never grow tired of Marina Lynchuk:

Yesterday’s parties were the best kind of parties because they were all centered around good food.

I started off my day with breakfast at Tiffany. Really. As an Audrey Hepburn fan who has watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s countless times, the whole thing was a little surreal. Tiffany treated about 20 bloggers to a lovely breakfast in the actual store before it opened. We feasted on smoked salmon with our mouths and diamonds with our eyes. Not a bad way to start the day.

There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about looking through old magazines. The glossy pages we thumbed through when we were in our impressionable tween and teen years told us who was cool and how to look cool (and we believed them).

If Tavi Gevinson’s recent announcement that she will be reviving a Sassy-esque mag with Jane Pratt showed us anything, it’s that the girls who grew up reading Sassy are fiercely loyal to the mag that shaped their identities in a real and lasting way. Lauren calls Jane Pratt her “personal Jesus,” and wrote that “Sassy is the reason [she] became interested in fashion as a 5th grader.” In her open letter to Tavi Gevinson and Jane Pratt on our blog crush The Hairpin, former Gawker scribe Emily Gould said as much, writing, “Sassy and, later, Jane got into my brain when it was at its most malleable; these magazines were such a profound influence on the way my tastes in books, magazines, bands, cute boys, and first-person writing developed that I hear their editorial voice in my head at the oddest moments, for example recently I was doing my laundry and I remembered a Jane tip about how you can use, and I think I quote? “like, half the amount of detergent” you’re currently using. I remember whole blocks of text from “Tiffani-Amber Thiessen: Something Does Not Compute.” I became the kind of writer and person I am in part because of these magazines.”

So it’s with an understanding of the powerful and formative hold that the glossies we once pored over still have on us that we launch our newest series, “From the Glossy Archives.” We’re pulling old glossies–from Sassy to Vogue to Pop–from our bedroom shelves and from eBay and scanning in the funniest ads, the most surprising stories, and most salient editorials so we can all reminisce together. And for the true magazine nerds out there (ourselves included), we will, of course, include the masthead so we can watch the editorial musical chairs play out throughout the years.

First up? We figured US Vogue from November 1988, Anna Wintour’s first issue as editor-in-chief, was a good place to start. The mag is a gold mine so we’ll dispense the nuggets piecemeal starting with the masthead, awesomely ’80s ads, and a feature that is an ode to Alaïa (before Alaïa and Wintour hated each other). Editorials to follow.

Take a look.

Last night the Gagosian store uptown fêted Exhibition A, a new project by Cynthia Rowley, Bill Powers, Laura Martin, and Gabby Munoz that aims to bring art collecting to the public at a lower price point. And we’re not talking about Cynthia Rowley Baid-Aids here (though I was wearing one yesterday), I mean museum-worthy works of contemporary art.

Including artists like René Ricard, Hanna Liden, Richard Phillips and Josephine Meckseper, Exhibition A sells special edition prints of works from $100-$500. The company keeps it exclusive by only offering the works for 2-4 weeks and only printing as many works as are purchased, meaning your collecting nemesis can’t snatch up your beloved Mark Borthwick after the sale has closed.
