Looking for a fabulous dress (or two…or three) for your upcoming holiday parties? Lucky for you, Roland Mouret, creator of the A-list beloved, oft-copied Galaxy dress, has just come out with an exclusive collection of 17 signature designs for Bergdorf Goodman. The dresses have feminine silhouettes in a variety of rich fall hues, mixed with menswear prints and wonderful lightweight textures. Prices range from $1,770–$2,295, which is steep, but we swear these dresses are truly gorgeous and the fabrics felt amazing.

We caught up with the handsome French designer to talk about the collection, why his signature Galaxy dress became so successful, and the very interesting advice he has for aspiring designers.

What kind of woman is this collection for?

Our series “How I’m Making It,” which profiles up-and-coming fashion pioneers as they climb the industry ranks, has inspired and informed you. Especially those of you looking to break into fashion.

So we’re bringing it to life. “How I’m Making It: What It Takes To Be Successful In Fashion” will take place on December 6, 2010 from 7pm-9pm in the Cantor Film Center at NYU.

Co-hosted by Fashionista and Farfetch.com, the panel includes over half a dozen of the industry’s most influential up-and-comers, including:

Michael Mente, Owner of Farfetch.com
Nellie Partow, Designer
Paul Birardi and Eddy Chai, Owners of Odin/Pas De Deux/Odin Fragrances
Rebecca Minkoff, Designer
Shipley & Halmos, Designers
Timo Weiland, Designers

Moderated by us–Fashionista editors Lauren Sherman and Leah Chernikoff–we’ll be asking these rising fashion stars how they broke into the business, and how they’re making it now. There will also be an audience Q&A, so we can pretty much guarantee your questions will be answered. (As long as it’s not, you know, super weird or inappropriate.)

Tickets to this one-time-only event are $24.99. Every guest will also receive a surprise goody bag. Sign up here now, as quantity is limited. We can’t wait to meet you and talk fashion! Here are the details again:

Anthropologie, which has really developed quite an impressive beauty collection lately, has a new fragrance feather to place in its faux-vintage cap. Le Labo, the New York-based niche perfume house founded by Fabrice Penot and Edouard Roschi, has created five new fragrances exclusively for the retailer.

Le Labo, in case you’re not familiar with the brand, is unique, even for a niche perfumery. When you purchase a fragrance from their shop, they mix it for you right there and add a customized label. The founders met while both making perfume for Armani. They chafed against corporate culture and in 2006 started their own range. Take a peek at their very amusing website. As Fabrice told me, they try not to be very serious about something they actually take very seriously; no fragrance snobbery here.

Anyway, back to the Anthropologie line.

We reported back in March that Theory CEO Andrew Goldman was courting Proenza Schouler, whose major investor–London-based private equity firm Permira–wants to sell.

Now WWD reports that the deal is about to go through: “Sources said Rosen could be heading an investment group that would buy Permira’s 45 percent stake in the designer firm.” Proenza’s designers. Jack McCollolugh and Lazaro Hernandez, as well as their college friend/CEO Shirley Cook, own 55%. Along with his role as CEO/Founder of Theory–which is owned by the Japanese company that also owns Uniqlo–Rosen has personally invested in Rag & Bone, Alice & Olivia, and Gryphon.

Yes, you read that headline right. Anna Wintour, Andre Leon Talley, as well as Marc Jacobs, Isaac Mizrahi, Tommy Hilfiger and Zac Posen all have speaking parts on Diddy’s latest album Last Train to Paris, out December 14.

We know this because, strangely enough, Vogue.com (you know, the place one goes to hear new rap), got an exclusive preview of the album, which you can listen to here. Yet the Vogue/Diddy connection is not quite as tenuous as it seems.

Black Swan hits theaters tomorrow, and we’ll finally be able to get a look at those Rodarte costumes (oh, and that much-hyped sex scene between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis). Ballet has long been a muse for fashion, so we decided to take a look at some of the best ballet-themed editorials over the years. The fashionheads at online communities the Fashion Spot and Fashin made them easy to find–thanks!

(Sort of related: Does anyone know what’s happening with that Kate Moss/Baryshnikov ballet movie?)

Anyways, back to the editorials. Take a look.

Sick of shopping for others already? Want to score something for yourself? Live in New York or Los Angeles? Then you’re in luck:

Mackage, the Canadian outerwear brand known for cool coats that don’t break the bank, is opening its first US brick-and-mortar store in New York City. To celebrate, they’re hosting an opening event tonight as well as a shopping event on Saturday, December 4.

The shopping event will take place at their new store on Mercer Street in SoHo. Customers who spend $150 or more will receive a fancy leather case. (It’s a pretty nice gift, we must say.) They’ll also get a chance to chat and be fitted by Mackage founders Elisa and Eran.

We all know that Grace Coddington is the ultimate fashion cat lady (though the industry as a whole has got a thing for cats). Not only does she have two cats –a Calico named Pumpkin, and a Blue Persian named Bart–but she also penned the masterwork Catwalk Cats. And, of course you all remember the Vogue spread Coddington styled featuring Karen Elson dressed up as Grace, posing with a litter of kitties.

So we were taken aback when Coddington admitted that she might bring a dog into the mix.
