Take A Look at the $13,950 Victoria Beckham Bag That Sold Out In Hours
By Leah Chernikoff
It would be putting it mildly to say that Victoria Beckham is a bag enthusiast. She reportedly owns around 100 Birkin bags. So it’s little wonder that the designer decided to create her own handbag line, and that her bags seem inspired by the classic shape and timelessness of the Birkin.
Victoria Beckham is one of the few celebrities to design a successful line that has been well received by fashion critics and celebrities and the general public. She took her time and worked with the right people to create a smart line with a clear aesthetic. So it follows that her handbag line is a hit, too. Beckham paired up with former Luella and current Marc by Marc Jacobs accessories design consultant Katie Hillier (who now designs her own adorable bunny-filled line) to create a collection of understated, boxy, lady like bags with a severe edge.
Two of the styles–the leather and nubuck shoulder bag and the hexagonal chain bag in crocodile–went on sale yesterday at Net-a-Porter. The leather and nubuck sold out within the hour, Elle UK is reporting. The nearly $14,000 crocodile bag (pictured right) sold out by the afternoon.
According to T, the collection comprises of six styles ranging in price from $1,800 to $13.950. The theme for the collection? “24 hours in the life of Victoria.”
So unless you truly live a life like Victoria’s, and didn’t spring for the $13,950 crocodile purse yesterday, the full collection will be available later this month at Bergdorf’s, Neiman’s LA, and more on Net-a-Porter.

Okay, it sold out….but how many did they have to start with?
i don’t get it.
Tyler there is 15 bags per style, net-a-porter never carries more than that for luxury handbags.
Beckham’s bags are well made, timeless, stunning and low key, just like her line of dresses, and that is the reason she has been that successful. Woman knows, and understands luxury, but most of all is always ready to learn more.
the croc bag is back on the site
I respect her…well, I LIKE her, I should say.
But those bags are plain and completely indistinguishable from a million other bags that we already have seen….AD NAUSEUM.
Let a senior design student or an upstart young designer with no previous fame come out with something like that, and the critics would have their head – what is the aesthetic, who is the target customer, what makes this special?
People want plain, now more than ever, you could say, so there is an argument that those bags make perfect sense. That said, I don’t think the No.1 is half as elegant as the Birkins she formerly carried, and I’m a little disappointed that it costs almost as much, for something so obviously inspired by the look. I assumed it would be between $1500-2500, not like $3500-5000. I feel the same about the Ralph Lauren Ricky. It’s fine to be inspired by those things but I don’t think it’s right to charge just as much.
I agree — the reason why Hermes charges those prices is that they still make the bulk of their products in France, pay their workers as artisans, and guarantee their product as long as its owned by the purchaser. You’ve owned that Birkin for 20 years, and scuffed it up? Send it back to Hermes and they’ll get it back to a respectable state.
Beckham in as sense can get away with those prices because the contemporary customer has been conditioned to pay the couture price with less and less couture service.
I should specify that even though there’s nothing dynamic about VB’s bags, I do think they look chic, well made and have details that make them relevant. They’re not all just simple shapes that have been done before. I am really only disappointed in the pricing. She’s pricing on the same level (or higher) as Marc Jacobs, and even though they’re selling, I think she should’ve aimed for the haute look at a more reasonable, if not accessible pricepoint. Somewhere in between Marc Collection and MxMJ, that is to say.
I imagine she yearns for credibility more than enormous worldwide sales, which probably figured into why she priced so high, but I think they solved that problem the wrong way. If that lovely bag at top left was priced at $600-900 (I believe it could be produced to a high standard for that), I think people would acknowledge the quality and respect her for it.
I agree with you about people wanting to be more…..austere. The days of ostentatious displays of wealth are over (FOR NOW, at least – I know they’re gonna be back in a few years). But it is just ridiculous that she can offer these items, as you said, at this price, when 1) there’s already a market for bags like that that look just like it, anyway, and 2) as I said, if a design student were to emerge with something of the sort, it would likely be decried as being plain and unoriginal, as opposed to minimalist and elegant.
Gorgeous. I’m happy for her success with the bags and clothes.
